It's interesting the hardness of the abrasive & the impact. I'm guessing the 1500 worn sandpaper will result in smoother edge than 0.1u diamond paste strop on thick paper I have.

Worn sandpaper can work well but it's no .1 micron diamond strop. Not even close.

Agreed. Even very fine & worn sandpaper will still be grittier than that; old swarf & dust on the paper would also likely be coarser.
