So bought another 3ft of mild steel last night from HD (thank God for the wife's HD credit card) after grinder half of it nothing was working and I about gave up all together. Watched some youtube and read forums. Set up my work rest that I've only tried once then BAM it all kinda came together. I tried a combo of different techniques and it all came out pretty good. So for any new guys reading this DON'T GIVE UP. It will click just be patient. I went through 8ft of metal! And about 6ft of that was 6in pieces that if you draw a cross on them you have 4 "knife edges" so I've been grinding ALOT.
Well here's the pic. I know the tip is blunt and there is some scratches at the spine but this is WAY better than anything else.

Thanks man I was seriously going to throw in the towel last night and just chalk it up to this ain't for me good thing I didn't!

Good job man! Another way to practice grinding is to use wooden painter sticks. It's a lot easier to do and quicker going. Now go buy some high carbon steel and make a sick blade!

I started out with just files, made a jig and filed away. You can see in super slow motion how the bevels take shape and correct errors easier. Helped me a lot when I moved to the 2x72 grinder. What kind of grinder do you have?

Thanks buddy! My suggestion, now that you can do a bevel you should get some O1 tool steel. You can heat treat it at home and make a rock solid knife. These are both O1 and its all I use so far.

Not at all. Something to hold hardwood charcoal I used an old broke BBQ. A gallon paint can of cooking oil, a magnet and you're up and running!

Force air on the charcoal (blow up mattress pump, hair dryer etc.) it'll get temps up plenty high.

Big improvement! You are on your way now man. This is a hobby where practice really pays off. Keep it up!

Well we just moved and I didn't bring my grill so idk. I'll probably just get the metal and good belts and make them one month send email off for HT THE next then get the handle material the 3rd month.

Thanks BKT I appreciate it man
