Pardon my rant, but I am hotter than a two dollar pistol.
UPS left my package on the porch and some little **** stole it.
On top of that, they swiped my spec plus machete that was next to the smoker. (used to split wood for cooking)

No excuse on the machete. I spaced it after cooking Monday.

that would piss me off if someone stole my package!!!. but next time, when u expect a package from UPS make sure you get a tracking # right away and check ups.com and there tracking service, it tells u what day to expect so on that day you should stay home and keep an eye out everyonce in awhile. thats what i do.

I normally do, but it was from Mike and they arrive like clockwork. No worries.
Well this was a day later so I thought I would look it up. Says it was delivered to my porch yesterday.

Bummer......

Dammit, Ed...I hate it when that happens! I have had 3 packages stolden out of my mailbox, or from the base of my front door over the past few years. That is why:

1. I DON'T use UPS anymore, UNLESS someone will be home, and is able to sign for it IN-PERSON. The 2 UPS drivers who service the route that I'm on KNOW not to just leave a package without getting a SIGNATURE.

2. I have USPS packages sent to me via "General Delivery" where I pick them up at my local Post Office, rather than have them sit in my mailbox or at the base of my front door while I'm at work.

I am sorry to read of your loss.:(.

I feel your pain. I have had 2 packages stolen this year, one expensive one deliveried to the wrong place(They wouldn't correct it) and several ruined from being left in the rain. :(

Actually, now that I have had some time to cool off I realize that I am pretty lucky. It was a bali from the blowout thread. I am not out a lot of money.
Just pissed at whoever felt it was OK to walk up on my porch and rip me off.

Ed...I just thought of something; Since it is illegal to carry a "butterfly knife" here in our state, make sure that you report the loss to your local police and sheriff departments. That way, if the punk that stold it gets stopped for carrying it, MAYBE you can get it back. I KNOW that is a VERY long-shot, but what the hell...

I leave a note on my apt. door that specifically says not to leave anything unattended. But once, a fedex guy left a box of mine on the front door (maybe in a rush, maybe just illiterate). When I called FEDEX to complain I got "Well, our drivers just don't leave packages at front doors, it's against company policy to leave packages unsigned for". I responded that there was my package just sitting at my door when I got home, and nothing had been signed for. She said "Well I can't explain that". I should've just taken my package then asked where it was and why it wasn't delivered. :)

Hopefully they'll get the punk that did it. At least it wasn't something terribly expensive.

Ed, I'm sorry to hear about your package being ripped off. I could have had the same thing happen to me once when I was shipped a NIB Spyderco Civilian to replace my defective older model.

That SOB from the UPS just left my package on the porch. Luckily, when my wife got home, she found the package untouched on the front porch. I would have probably gone postal on the UPS if anything had happened to my Civvie.

Ed, real sorry about that! I was home when one of my packages arrived but the UPS driver just dropped it on the porch & never rang the bell! The only reason I even bothered to check out on the porch was because my dog 'barked' a couple of times! I was home when another package arrived - at least the UPS driver rang my bell! But within the 30 seconds it took me to get to the door that guy was out of sight. Knock on wood, I haven't lost one yet but sure can see how it happens!

What I do is, when I order, I give specific delivery instructions to leave the package in a safe place, out of sight. I use two places, and one is lockable by the driver. I haven't had a problem yet, and I get lots of crap every week. I also run home on my lunch, when I can, and check for the package on the day the UPS website says it is going to be there.

I suggest leaving some specific delivery instructions when you order, so your package is safe.

I never had a problem with the post office, because the carrier brings packages inside a locked door along with the regular mail. I never had a problem with UPS, either, because they won't leave packages in the open here, and leave a notice if I'm not home. The few times I've gotten FedEx, they work the same as UPS.

All I can say is, if you don't complain, they will never learn. But cool off before you call, because screaming at the one answering the phone won't get you any sympathy or cooperation, either.

I appreciate your comments. I think I just had a false sense of security on top of other factors. Prosser is a sleepy little village.
I plan to follow some of the advice here to prevent future losses.

Well it wasnt UPS and it was not USPS , can not remember the company but they deliver Hazardous Materials....anyway...I ordered 2 8 pound kegs of Winchester 231 powder for reloading. This is supposed to REQUIRE an adult signature. It was left on my front porch !
A small wood crate with EXPLOSIVE in red all over it , along with HAZARDOUS and FLAMMABLE....my porch is visable to the street as well.
I seldom used the front door , coming in the door thru the driveway.
But as I came home that day I saw something on the porch out of the corner of my eye, there it was , left unattended and no signature did they get ! 16 pounds of fast burning powder sitting in the 115 Vegas heat. Bet the neighborhood brats would have loved to get a hold of that...

I called the place I ordered from and let them know about this ASAP.
It has not happened again , thankfully.

Scary huh ?

Sorry to hear it, Ed. Quite frankly I hate all delivery services but when they all suck you really don't have much of a choice.

Is it normal for a package to be left on the porch? We don't have this here. Locked mailboxes or get it yourself from the PO if it doesn't fit in the mailbox or a signature is needed (when you are not at home). Never had a stolen package.

It is normal. UPS will leave the items in fromt of the house unless a signature is required, and sometimes even then.

Once again, I am pleasantly surprised by another BFC member. One of the members read about this and offered to send a replacement. Thank you.
