This is my second KA-BAR, but my first Becker, and it surely will NOT be my last. I love this little knife. The sheath leaves much to be desired, but AZWELKE's Kydex should be here later today or tomorrow. I wrapped the handle in the shoelace that it came with, but I am going to be wrapping it in woodland camo 550 cord sometime today. More pics, and a short review to come.

The new sheaths for the 11, 14, and 24, which are all the same, are probably the best OEM sheaths of any manufacturer. The only issue I have with them is they're not compatible with Tek-locks or the G-clip.

The sheath, to me, is too big for neck or belt carry. They are great OEM sheaths, better than anything that CS offers, but they could be better. I guess it makes sens to have these sheaths to keep the cost down. All I know, is it is time for me to get a BK24. :D

I liked the sheaths quite a bit until I noticed it was dulling an inch long section of my blade. I'm waiting to get more rivets to make a nice purdy new one now :) I've heard they fixed the sheath dulling problem in the newest sheaths though

They have, and if you look at the old original sheath, it looks like it was designed/shaped for some unknown tanto blade.

I have seen those. Mine is not that old, but still dulls a section of the blade. A kydex sheath will also be lighter I do believe. Just waitin on rivets...

Nice. I am looking forward to see how it comes out. I am soaking my paracord and trying to figure out how I am going to wrap it.

I like my sheaths simple, functional, and versatile. So mine are pancake style and typically have holes spaced to fit around a 1.5" webbing belt and sometimes I add rivets for a tek lok too like on my 17 sheath. Tek loks are hard to beat.

Three of the most important things with ANY gear. Aside from the reasons you listed, is there any reason why you go pancake vs taco?

Congrats. My wife picked me up an 11 (after I asked for a 24 ) for FD. I guess I don't rate D2 steel.

Typical

But my 11 should be here by next week.

Not a bad wrap. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with mine. But I would really love some micarta.

With pancake you get rivets all the way around the sheath which increases the versatility. You can do this with taco styles but most people don't. Plus they tend to be a tad thinner since there is no hard bend in the kydex.

I thought about micarta, or some other scales, but I want to keep it as thin as possible so it doesn't print under my shirt.

That makes sense.

Hey guys,
Question, how usable are the neckers with no wrapping? Does the wrapping help alot with leverage of the knife? I just picked up a fixed blade for camping next month but I might want a necker for kayaking as well and was wondering. Also CDK did the paracord material make a difference over the sneaker lace and did you strip out the inner lining or no?

It wasn't too bad without the wrap. If you have smaller hands, it is fairly comfortable, but I would think the BK14 would be a little more comfy. As for the cord, it is 7 strand 550 cord that I left ungutted. It makes for a slightly lower profile wrap than the cord they give you, and it also allowed me to put more cord. I would say I used about 3 feet of cord. I soaked the cord prior to wrapping it and wrapped it as tight as I could. I will be doing another little trick later by placing the wrapped handle in boiling water for a few minutes, further shrinking it as it dries. We'll see how that works.

Cord wraps and micarta drastically improve your ability to bear down on the blade and improve overall grip. The knife however is usable without these options if you are just slicing and doing light work. Honestly its going to be a matter of opinion/taste/experience how one would fix up their skeleton handled Becker blades.

IMO the manufacturers scales are the way to go for the BK11/14 and are well worth whatever you pay for them.

The addiction has started. I just ordered an Eskabar from Amazon. I should have it tomorrow. :D
