Finally picked up a Para2!

Here's mine.

Just made the lanyard. The silver skull didn't turn out so good in the picture, but the lighting here is really bad, so I had to use the flash on my crappy camera.

This is just the perfect folder for me.

Nice! Perfect folder for me too. Love mine.

I'm not a knife 'jewelry' guy so I'm not sure, but that looks like an exceedingly long lanyard. Doesn't that get in the way when you're actually using the knife to cut things? Or, at the very least, doesn't it get in the way of being a man?:D

My masculinity is quite unthreatened, thank you for asking :D. I was actually gonna cut the strands of the paracord a little shorter at first, but I kinda liked the way it turned out so I decided to keep them that way. Kinda gives it almost a native american feel to it, when you have the knife clipped to your pocket. Never hurts to carry around some extra length of paracord neither, if you really need to tie something.

So Ive been EDCing my para 2 for about a week now and I have to say this is pretty much the perfect edc knife. Its ultra lightweight, has smooth action and is very comfortable. Its a big knife in a very lightweight package.

But there are some things that could be improved that Ive noticed while using it.

1.) The blade needs to be bigger. The blade is simple too short for the knife, not that it doesn't perform wonderfully but another 1/4 inch could conceivably be added to the blade with the same handle size. When compared to the 710, which has the same handle size within a milimiter or so, the 710 has almost an inch longer blade.

2.) The tapering on the blade makes it a tad to thin. I think they should go for a tip thickness similar to a manix 2. I carved some initials into a tree and felt like the tip was going to snap off at any moment.

3.) add a ball bearing or bolt action lock and this is the perfect knife. The compression lock is great but in a life or death situation you can't close it with your left hand. I am a big fan of ambidextrous blades. But i generally use my EDC for slicing an apple, not saving my life so its not that big of a deal.

Overall this is my favorite EDC so far out of a Delica, Twitch XL, CF Tomcat, and Manix 2 CTS XHP all of which I have carried very extensively. The weight is what makes it so special. Just got a D2 710 which I will start carrying this week. I think its going to be my new favorite but we'll see :)

My second Para2 was sent out this afternoon! :) I bought it last night from Blade HQ but they sold out right after I purchased mine.

I have a Para 2 and I am a lefty. I find that it is easy to close with my left hand but easier with my right. Just a little practice and you will be fine.

PS: It sucks being a lefty in the knife world.

I'm mostly lefty and even after a couple of years of trying I cannot do what I consider a safe and secure left-hand-only unlock and close with the Para (or any other compression lock). I've read explanations about how to do it and none of them work for me. It's the only knife I've got that I have to unlock and close either RH or with two hands. Obviously YMMV...that's good! Wish I could make it work LH also as you have because I really like the P1.

I think the Para 2 is one of the single most refined, best engineered models Spyderco has ever offered to the public. I carry my P2 original S30V first generation model quite a bit but here lately I did manage to score one of the carbon fiber S90V versions also. Now I find I'm even more torn as to what I want to carry each day. It is a tough choice trying to decide between my first S30V model, or beating up my minty new S90V CF model or carrying my M4 Ti frame lock Military. Quite honestly I wish now that Spyderco would just come out with an ATR like frame lock version of the Para 2 and just settle the matter in my mind so I'm not always trying to pick one. :D

So I carried my 710 today for the first time and while its one of my favorite folders of all time in terms of design and beauty, its not the best EDC. Its much heavier than the Para 2 and also I'm a little shy to pull it out and use it because the blade is so large and intimidating. Cuts like a champ though. But for now I think the para 2 is going to be kicking my XHP manix, CF tomcat, and my 710 out of the EDC rotation. This is the best EDC on the market that I have tried. Its really something special. So much knife and you don't even notice its in your pocket till you need it.
