OK folks, here it is!

Earlier this year, we announced an upcoming collaboration with Master Bladesmith, Jerry Fisk. We promised Jerry that we would not show pics of the proto's until they met his ULTRA HIGH standards. We have achieved that goal:)

Now for some specs and delivery info on the knife!

First, this collaboration represents the beginning of a new line of knives under the CAMILLUS banner.....

OVB

The OVB [Our Very Best] was orignally a line of traditional pocketknives made by CAMILLUS pre-WW2. They are considered the some of the most collectable knives ever made by CAMILLUS, and certainly some of the highest quality. We have decided to utilize the OVB trademark for a line of knives that will be of the highest quality, and very importantly, all very traditional. What CUDA is for our modern, "tactical" collaborations, OVB will be for traditional knives.

Bone, wood, stag, carbon steel, and BEST quality.

We chose Jerry, Master Bladesmith, National Living Treasure, and all around GREAT guy to lead off this new line of knives with what he is best know for...a traditional Bowie knife. We learned ALOT from Jerry. We are STILL learning. Without a doubt, he is Da Man. Jerry has been a real taskmaster for us, driving us to new levels of quality. Quality and performance. Working with Jerry is a honor.

On to the knife!

The FISK designed OVB Bowie is based on his ever popular COMANCHERO Bowie. Here are some specifications of the OVB Bowie....

Blade: 7.5" 0170-6C Carbon Steel, .188" Stock.
Handle: Stabilized Fiddle-Back Maple.
Finish: Satin.
Sheath: Leather with traditional "Frog-Stud".
Suggested Retail Price: $279.95

The knife will be shipped in a zippered pouch for storage, since you wouldn't want to store a carbon steel blade in a leather sheath. The knife will be limited to 500 pieces with this handle material this year. They will be serialized and dated. The serial number will be engraved on the lower leading surface of the guard.

More than half of the knives were sold "sight unseen" to our dealers. Act fast to reserve one today! We plan to begin shipping in 2/02.

Ohhhhhhhh Baby....come to Papa. :)

(Will, you may have gotten Fisk's approval, but you have'nt gotten the Grinch Seal Of Approval.....Back to the drawing board) :p

I'm glad I've got mine on order.:D (thanks Stabby) From hearing what might be in store for the next OVB knife I'm even more excited. Thanks for the pics Will.

Will,

That is outstanding! I'll have to handle one to see how she "flows," but obvious care was taken to make it look as "custom" as production can be. Could we get a peek at the sheath? Thanks, and great job!

Professor.

Will,

Way to go, man! I am not even a Bowie fan and I WANT ONE. You said the first 500 will have this handle material, what will the rest have?

Samhell,
Glad you like the Bowie! But just for my education:rolleyes: What is supposed to be the NEXT OVB project, since we haven't decided yet ourselves;)

MartialWay,
We don't have any idea yet. First we will have to see how the first run does, to decide IF we will build anymore. If we do, alot of that decision will be up to Jerry. IF we do anymore in 2002 it would probally be next spring before we would decide.

Thanks for the interest!

I started off with thicker stock. Then started working with it until it got to where the balance was best combined with how well it worked and then measured what the thickness was when I was through. That was what it was and it does work wonderful.
I was very impressed with how well then work their heat treating up there. It works so well that it would be a shame if the balance was not there so you could not use it well.
The first one of these knives should have been in a frequent flyer program for miles flown. That thing went back and forth countless times. But the end result is what you see. I thought several times that I may be pushing them too hard but they just belted right up and did each thing till they got it right. This knife will be honest competetion for the journeyman smiths out there.

The knife does have a large and long tang. Good fit on guard and ferrule. I had wanted the wood stablalized by one particular person because of the work he does. They screamed over the price but when they saw the depth and quality of the wood and work they agreed that it fit into what they are trying to do. Good people them Camillus folks.
They seem to think that quality wins out over time. I agree with them and am honored to work with them.

A beauty! I would love to see this knife with a stag handle. Maybe next year.

The knife looks well balanced and I love the blade profile. This knife also looks to be well priced. Great job Will, and you too Jerry.

That is one beautiful knife, eventho' I have a hard time calling any knife with a blade under 9 inches long, a "Bowie".!.:).

Though many people do not know it, when Jim Bowie died in the Alamo he was carrying a 6 inch Shiefield Bowie with him. The knife itself was stolen in the 1940's but the sheath remains. When the Alamo took their knives out of exhibit to let me fondle them I also got to hear the story and check the small sheath out. I am sure that Bowie also carried some type of large knife with him as well and they did not know where that one went or what type it was but he did carry the small one.
