Finally... Sharpening Vid

That's a fine little set up! Very smart way to get it done. I might have to spend $7 and make one myself. :D

THANKS!!!

Nice job! A good technique for my all-time favorite knife, and really well done videos in general. Looking forward to more.

Harbor Freight has some wet/dry sandpaper combo paks (220/500/1000/1200) that I've been using for my hand sanding and they seem to hold up well to vigorous usage.

I think it is a good idea. One you could expand on if you wanted. Watching it I was thinking of ways to make it more versatile & compact.
Also you did a fine job of presenting it.
Looking forward to more videos.

Been waiting for the Rick. Ingenious mate. Not sure if i missed this, but did you glue the cloth on? Sort of takes the fear out of how to approach sharpening the 4. Well done. I could see myself using that on my 7 and 9 as well.

Nice set up, reminded me of a giant sharpmaker.

As always, great production value and information. I like your style!

Looking forward to the next video.

Love that setup! I really have to try it out myself, that's pretty need. Not sure what that white pad-like thing, sown on your shirt is though... Maybe it's a good survival-firestarter but you could be a bit more subtle instead of wearing it on your chest :D.
Just kidding man, just kidding.

Excellent video. A great idea and very well presented. Good job.

Thanks, EVERYONE, for all the support and compliments. We are really trying to please you guys with content, and production value. We put a lot of effort into our videos, and that's why you don't see one pop up every single day. Remember, if anyone has any questions, or requests just ask. I'm truly glad everyone likes the sharpening kit. It's very easy to make, and works incredibly well. I took the 15, from this video, camping this weekend, and used it for all purposes. At one point I had to cut a bunch of lashings apart that were tied with 3/8" grass rope, and tied tight and heavy duty. The 15 went through them like hot butter.

Lol, thanks Shark. The white pad is an AT trailmarker. I got that shirt at Nantahalla Outdoors Center in Gatlinburg. The sales help support the trail. Sadly not a survival device, though the hen tells me I start fires when I wear it. [emoji12]

Very nice setup! And if you wanted to adapt it to convex you could add mousepad/leather between the dowel and sand paper/emery cloth.
Thank you, Dan, and yes you can. I was waiting for someone to bring that up. I know there are a few convex fans around here.

Thanks, Gassy! Yes, I did glue the Emory cloth with brush on contact cement. I did it so the sharpening surface would be smooth. It works great with any large knife. You'll love it, mate!

Messing around in the woodshop today and came up with a few variations ...

12"x18" cross-stick sharpener. 500grit wet/dry sandpaper got my BK9 sharp enough to slice phonebook paper effortlessly. And it can be adjusted to 20°, 22.5°, or 25°.

And here's a smaller version of CM_Rick's, about 6"x13" but, instead of a dowel, I used a router to round-over the edge.

The cross-stick is definitely safer to use by either holding it at the top or inside the 'triangle'.

I'll play around with the design some more and maybe make it out of hardwood like oak or maple. I'll probably replace the wood screws with bolts and wing-nuts to make it adjustable and collapsible without the need of tools.
