Where the NYC area is concerned, it's not just knives--It's the entire Bill of Rights.
And the citizenry just sat there and let it be taken away. Further, I'd suggest that over half of them don't even really know what that is and never really did.
The more densely populated a metro area is in this country, the more the folks are removed from nature. At the extreme, their lives are mostly fearful, illusion and entertainment filled. As one comes to the less populated areas, lives tend to be immersed more in the authentic and real, where common sense tends to prevail a bit more.
