Finally stripped my BK2!

So I received my BK2 some months ago and kept telling myself that I needed to get rid of that black coating. Don't get me wrong, it's nice with the coating but I kept seeing folks with stripped Beckers and thinking "Man that looks badass" so I finally took the plunge. I went and got some Klean Strip Sprayable Stripper at the recommendation of some post here in the Becker forums and went to work on it yesterday. I used a plastic paint tray and some good gloves and safety glasses, sprayed it on and waited 15 minutes. I used a plastic scrapper as not to scratch up the metal too much and had most of the paint off in about 10 minutes. Did a couple touch up sprays for some of the hard to remove spots and was done in about 25 minutes. I thought about sanding it down and polishing it but I quite like it the way it is now. I still need to throw a patina on it but this looks good to me as is. I also decided that the handles needed to be roughed up, just feels too smooth to me. I was worried about over doing it and making them uncomfortable such like a soldering iron for drill so I used a wood file and just lightly scruffed up the surface. I gotta say that they feel great! They actually almost feel like a micarta texture, gripy but not abrasive. I also sanded the paint off the hardware, took about 5 minutes and saved me a trip to the hardware store for now. So.. I loved my BK2 before hand but now I really love it! Here are a few pics, I would have liked to take pics of the whole stripping process but my camera's not cheap and I wasn't going to take the chance of monkeying it up, which I'm sure I would have. If you keep putting off that mod, go for it! You'll be glad you did!

Awesome work, looks great. Just a little advice, if you want to put a patina on it, you will have to sand off the primer coat that we see here. That greyish looking stuff. Not sure what it is, but none of my Beckers have taken a patina until that stuff is gone. On a side note, the ones that I left that on haven't rusted yet either.

GREAT JOB and good post, thank you.

Pictures like this keep pushing me closer, and closer to stripping my BK2. There really is something about it that looks badass....Great job!

Stripped mine not too long ago, very pleased with the results. Performs much better in my opinion.

Good work.

Looks good, I like the handle texturing you did. Looks kind of like wood grain

Thanks Moose, I was wondering if that was some heat treat remnant or something. If you say it helps prevent rust then I'll just leave it as is and see how it does. I think it looks pretty bitch as is.

Tknife, I never thought about it but it does resemble wood grain a bit. All I know is it feels good in the hand and I keep finding myself playing with it while watching the tube, better be careful:-D

Now I want to get a BK9 and strip it..lol. I could see this being an issue.

Lookin good. I just think that they look much better stripped than with the scrapes and streaks through the coating. Interesting grip mods, looks like a mans knife that gets used.

My 7 is sitting in remover as I type. I bought this foam stuff called Smart Strip. It's taking it's sweet time though. Had it on 2 hours now....no paint lifting yet. I'll leave it overnight and see.

Really looks good.

Any tips/mistakes to avoid ?

Going to do it to mine too. With the dark wood handles, should be
sweet.

Looks great! I like it.
