After a few years of owning my bk15 and wanting to strip it but never made time to do so.......I started today. I am a teacher and we had a day off today because of the cold/windchill. So I thought there’s no better time to get rid of this coating!

Here we go!!

Just ordered some Micarta scales for it also!

You’re off to a good start. Keep us posted. When I do this I like to keep a hard plastic spoon nearby in case you want to do some scraping.

Much respect for being a teacher too.

Anyone else think that paint stripper looks like fruit flavored yogurt? ;)
keep us posted for the results :)
It's the same stuff I use, it smells Great and seems pretty safe..... Stripped faster than I figured, less than an hour.
:)

I recently stripped mine with the same stuff and ended up having to use a razor blade to get the coating off. It was kind of a pain, hopefully u have better luck. I’ve only had a 15 for a couple weeks but have been using it daily, love the blade. If I could I’d post a pic but I can’t ever get it to work. Hope yours turns out great!

It doesn’t do too bad. The fastest stuff I have used was aerosol aircraft stripper.

I used a plastic scraper and a razor blade. Little bit of elbow grease but not bad at all.

Getting there slowly. As others have said, the citristrip does sort of patina the blade. But I still put it in vinegar. It’s actually soaking now. I experimented with some mustard also.

Freshly scraped

About 13 minutes in......

Well the mustard didn’t do much. I’m assuming it sort of floated rather than sit on the blade. But overall I’m pumped about this....It’s been a long time coming. The Micarta scales are set to be here this Saturday!

Here’s the semi-finished product.
