There have been several Bigfoot sightings in this part of the country. An old friend's dad used to tell the story of how his mother caught sight of a bigfoot peaking in through the kitchen window one evening. She screamed and it seemed to startle the creature. Her son and husband grabbed their rifles and took off into the woods after it. Without a trace short of thrashing trees, they gave up. I think it dawned on them that running into the pitch black darkness of of the dense woods didn't seem like a good idea.
There is a large creek that runs behind all the properties in that area. He said he would sometimes find big humanoid footprints in the muddy banks.
Having grown up in the area before it was developed, I can see how it would be at least possible to hide one or two critters. While it's close to a larger city, there are miles and miles of nothing but farmland and patches of untouched woods. during the crop growing season, you could probably walk from tree cluster to tree cluster through the stalks without even hitting any other path short of deer trails and gravel roads. A crafty creature could easily hide out and survive.
That said, most of those crops are now suburbs and the winding creek banks a lot more property than it did even 20 years ago. 40 years ago it was a wilderness.
