Finding Rare Spydercos - Where to look?

Hey everyone,

I've been searching for the following Spyderco knives:

Eduard Bradichansky Shabaria model C59

Howard Viele (serrated) model C42

Ed Schempp Persian (original larger version) model C83

Bob Lum Tanto model C46

Wayne Goddard model C16

Are these knives as hard to find as I'm thinking they are? Or will it just take some time and I'll eventually run across them?

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Some I have seen on EBay in the last year, if your pockets are deep enough. Or you could go the Want To Buy subforum here and start a thread saying what you are looking for. Maybe there will be someone here with extras to part with (if your pockets are deep enough).

Call the Spyderco Factory Outlet... I think they have Wayne Goddard models left. Don't know how many, so I wouldn't wait long.

Your basically asking how to do an entire hobby. If you are interested in rare Spydercos, you just have to look around like every other collector. If there was a place that was selling rare Spydercos, they would be all that rare now would they?

Do some searches on this forum and on the rest of the net. You will come upon a lot of dead ends but every once in a while you will find something. That is just how it is, it is hunting for any type of treasure, a lot of looking and a little bit of finding.

Those models are not terribly hard to find, especially if you are willing to pay the going rates. I am not really looking for any of them but I have seen all of those for sale within the last month various places.

I know where one that you're looking for is.

Ebay also has them a lot of the time, just takes patience, especially if you're looking for a specific version of a certain model.

Blade shows are a great source for older models. So is imagination:
I once put a post in my local CraigsL that said I'm interested in knives that have an opening hole in the blade. I kept it that generic. I got some interesting responses from folks who had this knife in the drawer that they have had forever but never used... says Spyderco on it...

I just saw a Wayne Goddard at yesterdays Frederick MD knife show. Looked at it, but didn't ask about price.

I've just sort of fell into them. Picked up a Dyad Jr with micarta scales at a small, and I mean small, show in Quarryville PA, from a fellow Chesapeake Bay knife club member. Got a Viele 2 on line. Traded for a Jess Horn at a Chesapeake Bay club meeting. I saw an old Native GIN1 at the show yesterday also, and an old, but still available Police with SE and steel scales.

What I've found is that you can get a deal at gun shows, but dealers either think they have struck gold, or they don't know what they have.
