Finding that perfect EDC folder.

How about a good 'ole Sodbuster?? Drop it in the pocket, pouch it or have STR, put a pocket clip on it.

Exactally what you need: Kershaw Tyrade:thumbup: Slim enough to carry comfortably, yet enough weight to let you know it is a solid knife in hand. Framelock that is excellent and consistent from one tyrade to another. The blade is 3.6" with a composite construction of 154CM on top and CPM D2 for the cutting edge. Tip down carry with a deep carry clip available from Steve Rice, aka STR. This is one heck of a knife and still available. Knifecenter shows them in stock for a little over 1/2 of what you are willing to spend.

I switch off beteen a Sebenza, a william Henry and a custom by Greg Lightfoot.

Unless I am in the field hunting, camping or survival work then it's a Strider SMF and a SAK.

I loved the original griptilian in 440c but I despise 154 cm so the new one is out.

Sounds like you have something you like there. You can always get a 440c grip second hand and perhaps some stores might even have old stock that you can buy. I managed to get one slightly used at a good price last year.

EDIT:
Whoops. Just realized I read your tip up statement incorrectly. I guess with a $400 budget you could have someone modify a grip to tip down carry.

But he did say he doesn't care for lockbacks.
Yeah, but he's sending mixed messeges....
I tried the Spyderco line and so far the Manix has been my longest carry knife. I carried it for over a year. The Endura and the Delica are fine but lock backs just don't do it for me.
Lockbacks don't "do it" for him, yet he carried the Manix (a lockback) longer than any other knife he has owned???

I do not like the Buck 110 because the lack of a pocket clip and lack of one hand opening. I always carry a sodbuster jr. I am thinking of getting a Ritter grip and having it modded for tip down.

One handed opening was defined by Sodbuster's , Buck 110s and similar, w-a-y before this new and fangled one handed opening come to be.

I am 53, and as a kid, ladies and gents could whip out a Sodbuster, one handed so fast, even with gloves on...
My area saw Case Mako Sharks, and these were whipped out one handed like the folks that came in with Buck 110s.

I don't go pocket clips, (a) they affect the feel and handling of a knife, less comfort and control in using.
(b) around some areas, the thugs are reading pockets, and they know what clip is what and read folks, so they target clips, in hopes of getting a CCW, or following one to case the house. If they see advertising such as a vanity plate :
"Forget 911 I call .357", they suspect there are guns in the house.

This is not a new thing either, crooks have been reading people , places and things forever.

Just thoughts...
How raised and I want to blend in, not draw attention, and go about my business.

In no particular order:

Benchmade 551
Case copperlock
Spyderco delica
buck 110

I do not like 154cm because I have trouble sharpening it. I should have put in my original post that the knife needs to be made out of steel easy to sharpen on a sharpmaker. I have never been able to get a great edge on 154cm on my sharpmaker or ATS-34 for that matter.
