Finding "the one"

Erik, it's good to see you post buddy. Though I have been here less myself, I have missed your posts, especially the fishing thread. I know about rethinking priorities and assessing what is top priority.

One thing I love about this forum is how you are welcomed right back on the porch after hiatus.

The offer still stands if you make it to Arkansas to fish. We have some great waters where a small mouth will rise to an offering on a flyrod.

Chris

Thanks Chris, that would be great! I've said it before and I'll say it again, my dad has nothing but good things to say about the White river. He keeps hinting at taking a quick trip up there but niether of us ever latch on to the plan long enough to make anything of it.
And I'm far from fishing for anything like bass on the fly.
I'm still working on my short little drifts for trout at the moment.
You are so right about the welcoming atmosphere of the porch. It's the main reason I wanted to come back even if I don't plan to purchase a knife anytime soon.
I will admit, though, having to learn this new(to me) format is getting me grumpy at times.
But on the bright side, I can now say "back in my day..."!

My fellow Georgian, I couldn't agree more. I'm trying to do what you stated and I'm pretty sure I do have "that knife," but my acceptance is not quite there yet. Quite frankly, I haven't posted in a while, I too have been enjoying life and putting my phone down (started practicing last October). I stopped - almost - all social media. I only go to specific interest sites/forums anymore...and rarely at that. Swelling rivers and rain is ruining my outside time lately, however, you know that, as well.

That knife has always been your favorite...IIRC. You switched but always came back to that one.

I got a kayak after seeing yours and remembering what fun it was to float from the Dam to Marietta trout fishing. Lately, I've been just paddling Lake Lanier and catching strippers.

To a lifetime of enjoyment my fellow Georgian.

To the forum, think of the last day you went without using your phone to see what others are doing instead of yourself. Seize the day!

I've been meaning to knock the dust off my kayak lately. It's been neglected ever since I started learning to fly fish.
I've actually been enjoying all the rain. It's kept a lot of the other competition of the river. I fish the Buford dam just about every other day and when it's nice out it's hard to wade more than 10 feet without crossing someone's line!

And I'll add the obligatory knife contact so the mods don't yell at me!
I was looking through the old 77 Barlow thread and saw mention of a clip and coping configuration. That knife definitely has potential to kick the spear off the pedestal. My main complaint with the spear and coping combo is the lack of a pointy blade. The point isn't used often, but a needle point comes in handy here and there.

SadSappySucker SadSappySucker I live 10 minutes from the dam. I used to trout fish that part of the river and down. Now I enjoy more up in the mountains to catch my trout. I drive my car to the Dam's parks every sunny day. I look down from the upper Dam parking lot and watch everyone fishing. I've been going there, since I was a boy. I launch at The Dam Store these days and paddle to the parks. I spend copious amounts of time, in that area, but it is weather dependent. I just came back from there today.

Ratbert Ratbert There's so many around the dam and its parks. I've heard there's more around the Hall Co. side and near Cumming. Such a good time - I haven't gone a day yet - this year - without a catch. I've also caught some large catfish in that area, however, it was always at night and on a bank.

Good times, fellas.

I've made a serious effort to pare my knives down to what I really enjoy carrying. I've never been a "collector" nor an "accumulator". As to "the one", I'm not sure it exists.

For a longer period than I thought these have become "the ones." (Subject to change)image.jpeg

It is a fascinating concept really, the ability to get by with just one knife and one knife only. I think there comes a point in many folks' lives where they feel a need to "purge" or simply pare down their possessions. I know I have that same sentiment at times when I feel things are getting too cluttered or complicated.

When it comes to knives though, I have come to terms with the fact that I am a "knife guy". I like knives and am rather enthusiastic about them, so naturally they are something I tend to accumulate and/or collect. Can I get by with just one knife? Certainly! My dad did it for probably his entire life, used one knife until it died and then got another. There are folks, including many of my friends, who get by with carrying no knife at all and they often scoff at the notion that I carry a few at any given time. In fact at this last weekends Father/Son trip my buddies would poke fun at me by telling their sons, "Go ask Dylan to borrow a knife and he will let you choose from the five he has in his pockets".

Regardless, I have the greatest respect for folks who get by with the simplest of things. I just like stuff and often end up carrying more than I need, especially knives. :D

Beautiful 77s SadSappySucker SadSappySucker and @jc57, truly stunning.
