Finger choil vs non

I noticed that in my rotation of knives I have a 50/50 mix of the two. I didnt realize until I started using choiled knives (caly 3.5 and paramilitary 2 comes to mind) how second nature it becomes to "choke up" on the blade for detail cuts, which is apparently a large part of what I do. The unforeseen problem Ive found is that when you rotate into a knife without a choil...your hand tends to wander onto the blade. So am I just being absent minded and getting what I deserve or is this something my fellow knife knuts deal with?

I don't often find myself needing to choke up with a choil. Practically never.
I vote no.

I think it depends on the handle design and use of the knife. I really appreciate how finger choils on folders act as insurance against the blade closing on your fingers.

The only time I find a choil necessary is on small knives.
Counterintuitive maybe but when dealing with a small knife with a 3 finger grip (think Spyderco Dragonfly) it's nice to be able to choke up for a 4 finger grip.
On larger knives I find it unnecessary and it just gets in the way most of the time.

I am a fan, myself. I own plenty of knives without choils, but only because that's the way they came.

I always prefer a choil, and I definitely DO run into the same problem when switching to a non-choil folder. It's just where my fingers want to go!
