I am having trouble and i m sure you all can help i have some 3/8 thick 416 stainless im tring to make a finger gaurd . this is what i did i cut about 1.5 inches and found centre then made 5 marks about the width of the handle took a drill bit the thickness of the steel and drilled a row of holes the took a file and dremel tool and made the slot it was a little sloppy and so i tapped it tight to fit better but there are some gaps and the holes are slightly out of line. Will i be able to fill the gaps with solder or is it trash. I heard people solder bolsers and finger gaurds so am i ablt to fix the mess by soldering???????? thanks please reply kellyw

Soldering is really meant to seal the gap between the guard and the blade. It is meant to keep out liquids what would get in under the scales and cause corrosion. If you do everything right, there should be very little gap and you should be able to close it by hammering it. If the gap is too wide you really need to start over. There are several tutorials on Bladeforums that show how it should be done.
