Finger grooves

I don't currently own a 112 or 110 with finger grooves and I've been thinking about picking up a 112 and eventually a 110. I wanted to ask you guys that own them if you like them and carry them, or if the standard version feels better. I think the 112 feels great already and would like to know if it can get even better. If anyone has pictures floating around, I'd love to see them. Honestly, I'd love to see pictures of any 112 or 110, so post as much as possible.

My take on finger grooves is that they may offer better purchase. However, I also find that they confine the way my hand can hold the knife. Also, I have very thick, muscular fingers and a large hand, so if you are like me, you will not usually like them. However, folks with more normal sized hands often do prefer them.

I have some big mitts myself. Not many places carry them so I doubt I'll be able to handle one in person first.

I've got quite a few, but have never carried one for everyday use.
I do like the way they feel, but there is no carry time.
I'm speaking of 110s. I don't carry any 112s ever.

I like both depending on what I'm doing or where I am. I figure I might try the 112 first, because there's a 110 configuration in the custom shop that I'd like to get. I don't have the budget to do that on a whim so I figured I'd try a standard model first. That way if I liked it I'd have one of each.

What you can do is get on a computer and blow up a photo of a 110 and a 112 to life size and then lay your hand and fingers across the handle and see where everything hits you. It will not be a certain thing, but it can tell you quickly if it is very wrong for you.

I like the finger groove 110, but I don't carry it. It does feel like the fg version offers a more secure grip for conditions that require it. Forgive my Trump fingers, I'm a medium/large glove.

Do the grooves fit your fingers, and when the knife is held edge sideways ,of up side down ? If not don' use them. This goes also for pistols !

While I've not had either the 110 or 112 specifically, I have had the "112" Bucklite (not sure of the model number) and many other finger grooved knives from other makers.

I vastly prefer handles without grooves. I move around on the handle a lot for different tasks and the grooves tend to get in the way of that.

It's one of those things that feels great when I first pick up the knife but then annoy me with about 20 minutes of use. I've had shoes like that too. Feel great in the store but I hate them by the end of the day.

Definitely YMMV territory.

I'm starting to think I should just get one. I'm sure it would get a lot of use. I reckon I should spend 50 bucks and see if I like them before I think about getting one from the custom shop.

WM - thanks for the pictures, that's what I was hoping for.

I have a 112 with finger grooves. I have medium/small hands and have enjoyed using it enough to where I've been thinking about ordering a 110 with finger grooves as well. In my opinion the 110 is nearly perfect for what it's designed to do, but I have noticed that under wet conditions it can be a little slippery to hold. If not for Buck allowing for the brass studs over the scales to come out a little and provide some traction, it could possibly slip through my fingers (which it never has). Finger grooves help provide a little traction and can improve hold/grip around that area. Depends on what you feel is most comfortable for your size hands.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out a bit. It's not a huge deal like I'm going to buy a $600 custom (which I would never do anyway), but it's not just a couple bucks either.

RevolverGuy - that's a good argument for the 110 with the grooves...

They are easy to do. Just wrap coarse sand paper around a wooden dowel and sand a divot. Then with finer paper smooth it out. I really like finger grooves. The shallow type, nothing gaudy. For me it turns the handle in to a nonslip handle when I processing something. I have them on several 110's and a few 112. DM

I like them, the plain handles are also very comfortable but finger grooves give me a little better grip. I am tall with long fingers and big palms. They fit my hands very well.

I don't have any FG 110s/112s, but I sure love them on my 560. I imagine the finger grooves with the more hand filling 110 would be pretty good. The Custom Shop 110 I've configured a couple of dozen times has finger grooves...

I got my FG CS 112 just to have a more completed 112 collection but I have found that I prefer the finger grooves. They work well for my med. size hand.

I like fingergrooves, Leroy did the stag handled one some years ago. It is done slimmer than the regular production one. Recently I had him do a 110 and 112 with BG 42 steel blades that I had and did them in the slim fingergroove slyle. The picture is to show the slim 110 and 112 in comparision to the regular production, regular ones are the third and fourth ones from the top...if you couldn't tell. I have medium size hands and like the feel of the slimmer ones. Preston

Here is a 110 I found on the bay. Because it is prior to Buck doing finger grooves it is a home made product. I don't carry it.
