Finger grooves

Here is my only custom. A 110 with N/S, water buffalo and shiny blade. No I don't carry it.

I like the finger grooves,if for nothing other than they made fewer of these models.Yes,I like to be different.LOL

I just bought a three dot 112 finger groove NIB on ebay.

Very nice. I like water buffalo. My only custom is the water buffalo with N/S bolsters and Pins, but with the black oxide blade and no finger grooves. I really like the shiny blade on yours and the finger grooves.

Love that custom! NS Bolsters and mirror blade are they way to go! I have one like it without the finger groves.....

I think it depends a great deal on how you use a knife; how you prefer to grip it and what you use it for (which also determines how you grip). Look at Wallace Mutt's series of photos with a Buck 110FG above - that is how I would hold a Buck 110 if I were to fight with someone with the knife. Typically I use mine to clean game animals; for me I hold a knife like the Buck 110 or Buck 112 entirely different for that purpose and the finger grooves really don't come into play but they don't bother those back fingers either. I am right handed, my right thumb rests on the left side of the wood scales of a 110 and the bolster of a 112, my right index finger rests on the top bolster of a 110 and the blade spine of the 112, with both knives the last three fingers wrap around the back frame of the knife (deer skinning photo illustrates what I'm trying to describe). I have large but not huge hands, XL gloves in most brands; on a Buck 112, being a bit shorter than the Buck 110, I find the finger grooves to be a bit of a bother in that the grooves want to determine where those last fingers fit (not enough to not own or use one). I actually like the older, square frame 112 without finger grooves in that size. OH

Well, I ordered a 110 with the finger grooves. It's hard to explain, but I like it and don't like it at the same time. I think the grooves feel good in the standard position but there's no real room for movement as pinnah said earlier. There's just something about it that throws me off. I spent over an hour holding the FG and the standard model, switching them back and forth trying to get a feel for the differences. Battling through the countless eye rolls from my beautiful wife. And guess what, they both feel pretty darn good. I have to say, something about the finger grooves just don't feel natural to me and I don't know how often I'll carry it. Just didn't feel like a 110. I'm glad I got it, and I'm even more glad I didn't order a custom with them because I was getting pretty close...

Probably something you need to carry for a while to see if grows on ya.
I've been carrying my 560 just for the heck of it lately, the grooves on it are much more defined, and it doesn't seem to be to bad. Last year or so I used it to clean a hog and was real glad it wasn't regular 110 as my hand slipped enough that the first groove at the index finger stopped it from biting me, which it would've had it been a 110, then again had it been a 110 Ida probably been a little more conscious of it.

Point being I believe in giving something a good try, to get past the nuances of it being different then what you are used to. That is unless its just terrible. LOL
