How To Finish mircata without buffer?

I just buff with pure Brazilian carnuaba wax. You can buff by hand as others have stated. I've also used WD-40. When sanded evenly, 400 grit gives a nice, smooth, finish. Canvas micarta is a bit aggravating for me to finish but I really like the way it turns out.

Yep, some sort of wax. The less-nasty the solvent in it the better.
Usually I use Classic Wax or Flitz's Gun & Knife Wax, or Howard's Butcher Block treatment on wood, but I've even used Sno-Seal when pressed - like out here on the ship, had to touch up a fellow sailor's blade that I made for him last year. Sno-Seal was handy, but I'd avoid liquid oil products except on exposed carbon steel.

And +1 on sanding. Gotta get all the machine marks out. I go from the grinder to 180grit hand-sanding. The first grit is the most time-consuming, and it goes quickly from there.
