I have been taking some evening knife making classes at the Vo-tech, and have really been enjoying it. Knifes 8 & 9 are being sheathed up now.

Anyway, the top knife is exhibition grade desert ironwood, mosaic pins with fiber optics in them... about 6 7/8" The second one is leftover ironwood from the above knife, water buffalo horn and imitation abalone... about 5 3/4".

Problems, fiber optics collect light from the side and push it out the end... sides are hidden, but hold it up to the light and it works. but I really like them and only knife makers see the problem.

Very Very Nice.

I'd call the fiber optic passing light through the knife a feature, and charge extra. Makes it unique.

Great looking sharps! Love those friction grooves and the handles on #2 are amazing. FYI, I believe you were referring to the late Bob Loveless* in the title.

Those are beautiful knives and no disrespect but I would watch my pin spacing a bit more.
both are excellent in mat selection. Jerry

Thank you all for your comments. The mat behind the knifes is an elk skin that I haven't done anything with yet, liked the texture.

I put the thumb groves on the blade with a dremel so it went pretty quick but the suggestions for the checkering file is great thank you. That would be a lot easier for spacing... but I now feel that the thumb groves aren't really needed as they fill up with junk and after using one for a bit, it wore on my thumb.

Spacing of the pins, that is a big problem for me. I line everything up drill them, then the hollow grind goes a bit far back changing the handle layout but the pin holes are drilled. Then I maybe grind down the top of the handle material and get too much metal so the pins wind up "floating" up. Would love a tutorial on pin placement.

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Just wanted to add that going to a bead shop for the lanyard is a lot of fun, seeing what all is there and what works, go to several shops. The blue beads are Lewis & Clark trade beads, the soft red ones are from Russia late 1880's and am unsure of the bright red ones... they run about $2 each and really dress up the knife, I think. For knifes 8 & 9 I have custom designed beads ($15 for 2)
