Finished knives - #'s 3,4 and 5 - LOOOOK!!

Raymond
the only draw back to A2 is it is very low in chrome other than that it is a very good steel. If I ever make up fighting knives
I will use A2,It is a very high impact steel but you already probably knew that.Takes a wicked edge when HT right:)
I am very humbled by all the great input on my work

Nathan, Those are really nice ones. It seems as though you have settled into the techniques and equipment finally. You may be onto something big with your 1" belt setup. Where do you buy the 1" belts or do you cut a 2" Did you have the 1" wheels made?

Bruce
I bought my 8 inch wheel form rob frink
and I have a 10 inch that is 2 inch wide I bought from
Bertie Batavia from South Africa, his wheels are out of this world
I am going to have him make me a 1 inch wide 10 inch wheel
his prices are very cheap I bought my 10 inch wheel from him
for 160 dollars and that was shipping included.he told me a 1 inch wide wheel 10 inch contact wheel will be 150.Bertie grinds all his knives on a one inch wheel, save alot of money on belts also

You can either get a Sharkey Tipps belt splitter from one of the knifemaker supply houses, or make a slit where you want the belt to split, and just tear it.

I split the belts with a belt splitter.I bought the belt splitter from Sharky Tipps.

Nathan, I've got to agree with Bruce on the 1" belts. When you come right down to it most the work done on a belt is on the edges. A twofer sounds good to me. If your flat grinding you wouldn't have to change wheels just make a 1" wide platon. Where did you get the belt spliter? Better yet can you post a picture of it... Thanks...

Raymond
I bought the belt spliter from Sharkey Tipps
I will look for some info I had from him
and I will post here or drop you an email
I don't flat grind but I don't see why a 1 inch platen would not
work

Hey Nathan - I go away for a couple days and look what appears! Those are beautiful! Cool designs, super workmanship, complex grinds - you got it! All that time you've been posting and hiding your talent from us....keep us posted. BTW, Alain did a great job with those shots.

You've been making knives for a couple years now. You better make more than 3,4, or 5 knives if you want to eat.:D

I have been doning albut of looking and reading.and to be honest when I first started I did not even know if I wanted to make knives
so I sold my first grinder and sat and read alot about them.
Then I finaly got some good equipment and started. Thanks for the good input makes a man feel good

Nathan, Wow    Wow, Can you teach me to make knives like that....3rd, 4th , 5th Geeze I can't wait to see your 6th!!!!Outstanding!:D :D :D :D

Nathan,

I don't know what to say! That is really some nice work. I mean really nice. I'm jealous.

Everybody else says keep going. I say please stop! Either you work too hard at it and you need a life or you're a natural and that's not fair.

Very nice looking knives Nathan... I can see a HEAVY Blackwood look to them... Not an easy thing to do with your first few knives.. His designs are very cool...

I saw "Neil" in them as well. Nice looking by the way.

We all have mentors and you will see some of them in each and every knife until we find our own way but it will still be there to some degree, forever. Just remember that they gave something of themselves and it shows in not only their work but ours as well. That is one of the rewards for "giving something back".

well not all CL. :) at least to start..(finding I corrected my self here later)

when I started (1974) and for ((many years)) I didn't have a clue who
else was making knives, I just did my own thing until 5-6 years ago
once I got on the net (WWW.) (then happy times are here again ) :D
I could have progressed a lot faster if I were in the right places at the right times
to have mingled with other makers for sure..

I'm told I have my own style and that would be why I guess.
other than my reproductions of course. I agree, give credit where due
and I try to show that in the site I made to help others coming in.
with a lot of the input makers have given here and there .

it's not to say I don't or haven't learned from others
because I have in the past few years ( a lot) and I hope others have
picked up from me also in the past.:D

and now you all are my mentors, I learn everyday from you all one way or the other..Thank you all
:)
