Finished knives - #'s 3,4 and 5 - LOOOOK!!

Black Hat
I would like to nip this in the bud before it starts anything
negative. If you read my post I said these are prototypes and there will be some changes made to some of the designs.
My work does have a Blackwood feel to it but that is as far as it goes. The little blued handle on,on the final version the front finger grove is gone, and The one with the black G10 it has 2 finger groves in it Mr Blackwood dose not have a handle like that.
The Big knife the handles are are very different.I have never seen
or have any of Neils work in my hands.I think a major fact about my knives that gives it such a Blackwood feel to it is the way I grind
with the rounded shoulders, the way I grind is onething that I will never change I have praticed long and hard to be able to do it.
It was said in the last post there is not a maker who has not been influanced by another maker.I hope I have made myself clear on the fact that I will not keep any one desings, maybe influance but that is about it.I hope this will go to father

You free handed the designs?

I would understand if one of your knives looked like one of Neil's knives but I have to question your originality when all your knives look almost exactly like Neil's designs. I am not a knife maker or designer but I find it unethical to produce a design which is extremely similar to another maker's. You may want to contact Neil and see how he feels about this before this becomes a major issue. Just my $0.02 cents.

Just another meaningless opinion, but if I was shown the hunter with the blue handles, and it didnt have a name etched on it, I would surely think it was one of Neil's.

mr. house,
you don't owe me any explanation..i was merely responding to a post on the forums from my point of view..NOTHING MORE.

hell, i was even kinda slighted by mr. blackwood about 2 years ago (my knife order was lost somewhere and he couldn't remember it and thus, i missed out-i know him to be a great guy from what EVERYONE says so, i let it go at that..maybe one day i will get lucky) but what is fair is fair...and while imitation is the greatest form of flattery..there is a line to be drawn..again in my opinion.

i am through with this issue but, the last person to say NO RESEMBLANCE..was absolutely WRONG, even by you, the maker's, own admission..

i wish you all the best and am sure you will have a long and prosperous career..

edited fo SPELLING..;)

I do admit Thay have a Blackwood feel,But these are prototypes
and I have the final version of it.I emailed Neil Pictures of the knives, when I posted them he has not emailed me back with any backlash.I have spoken with Neil several times on the phone
and I told him his work has influanced me as a new maker.I will not have final version that is a notch off. These were just a newmaker getting my feet wet in the world of knife making.
Danbo that is a complament if you took the name of it you would not be able to tell.
by freehand on my designs.I mean I use paper and ink to draw
the knife out.;)

Mr. House,
I find it commendable that you credit Neil's influence, but you must admit, these knives bear more than just a passing resemblance to Blackwood Knives. Grind is one thing , "design" is another. Changing the shape of the butt, or moving one finger groove, or removing one hole, is not enough when the rest of the knife is identical.

You may not have intentionally copied the designs, but it appears you may have unconsciously done so. I would think you should have waited for Neils approval first, but that's just me. Silence is not a consent.

Your work looks excellent. I'm sure you'll do fine once you start putting more of "yourself' into a design.

Good luck,

Joe

Man
This is out of control,I should have keep the knife pictures for myself and not showed anyone my prototypes.I am not stealing Neil knives.I have designs of my own,On every knife I design and make I can't be worried about did some one make a recurve like this or a palm swell like this,LET ME SAY IT AGAIN THESE ARE NOT THE KNVES I WILL HAVE WHEN I HAVE MY WEB PAGE SET UP AND START SELLING KNVES,THESE WERE JUST EFFORTS TO TRY TO RAISE MY GRINDING STYLE.ENUFF SAID.there is not a knife out there that has not already been done.

I had to do a double-take and see who's mark was on the blade!!! Those look almost exactly like Blackwoods and anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves.

There is far more than Blackwood influence going on here Nathan. I hope you have talked privately to Neal. Afterall when you copy another maker, it's both respectful and courteous to let him/her know you have done so.

Again, WOW:eek:

Guys,

I appreciate the concern. Nathan and I have resolved any and all issues here, everything is COOL!

Neil
