Well I have messed with leather once or twice but decided to give it a go. I got a great deal on leather from tandy for my strop so I decided to build a sheath the way I wanted it since it cost next to nothing. Hope you like. There will be more to come since I have enough for about 8 so I am going to try some different designs and see how they work. So far I went ahead and coated the billet and part of the inside with oil so hopefully it will help with the rusting on the edge. Let me know what you guys think and any input on my next ones would be great.

Ok. Well so far I have started using a stitch groove cutter so it all sits flush now. I have the new shape finished and it is waiting on hardware. The firesteel loop is going to be sitting on the end of the squared off area and will be adjustable so if someone changes the size of firesteel they use then it wont be a problem. plus it will also be completely removable and you can use the end holes for a neck lanyard if you need to. I need to upgrade my membership and then I will be selling these within a week or so. please help me with any other input. I am glad that I can be doing these with the input of the people that will be using them. Dont mind the oil left in the stitches. That will be gone when it is finished. I still have to finish up the edges more on the square one.

Well here are the pics of the most current one. I Have decided that there are so many sheaths out there that only fit one style/use. So far My ultimate goal has been to make a sheath as versatile as possible. Well here you have it.First I like the ability to carry more than just one way with a sheath. Well with this you can carry horizontal on your belt, Add a strap to it and it carries vertical.I spaced the loops out so that they fit just right with PALS/MOLLE gear. And the firesteel loop is removable so you can add the ability to carry around your neck if needed. Next on the firesteel loop I love having one. But the problem with most....You get one that only fits a single diameter. Well I set these up so that they are adjustable. From 1/4 to the 3/16 " and if you really want it would be no problem to get the crazy 1/4 " covered too. I also located the firesteel loop on the end for a little added safety. Some people get concerned over a knife pushing through leather if enough force is applied. Well this is just one more layer to help with that. The other thing that I went with is the screws that all have flatheads on them. That way if you have a problem in the backcountry or need to replace a strap....just use the blade on you knife and you are set. No more dealing with the pesky allen head screws in the middle of nowhere. I am pretty sure I am close to the final design. I will be working on the finish a little more. If anyone has any other input let me know.

Good leather work. That looks awesome. I wouldn't cahnge anything except for maybe adding a firesteel loop.

On another note, Is that a bow drill divot? I like how it can be used while the sheath is on.

I'd buy that sheath in a heartbeat if they were for sale... lovely work.

While the sheaths that come with the RC knives are very functional.... well to me there is just something about a fine knife with a fine leather sheath.

well I am already working on the next evolution LoL. It will be a squared off end and I will be doing a firesteel loop. But I dont like the fixed style that only fits one size so I am going to try and make it removable and adjustable to fit multiple size Firesteels with chicago screws.

I am actually planning on selling some in the near future. that was just a rough draft. I am trying to get my designs down and all the "Little details" worked out. I only own an rc-4 but will be planning on eventually trying to do them for the 3,6 and izula also.

That is a beautiful sheath. I particularly ike the little stud fastener and textured straps. My only suggestion would be to cut a shallow trench/groove for the stitching. That way the thread would be flush with the leather and protected from abrasion.

Well i just had an idea with the spacing on the loops. I got them just right so they should be molle compatible. So far from sticking it on my gear it fits fairly snug. I dont know if people would like this or not but it seems to be a plus. Also I went with chicago screws that are flathead compatible instead of the allen head setup. There is nothing that upsets me more than being in the backcountry and needing to adjust something and you cant. This way you can just use the edge of the knife to tighten or remove them all together.

VERY cool idea! Now if you can make a leather MOLLE backpack for it to go on...:D

Sweet. Just got done messing around some more. I will probably do two sets of loops for each one. One that has more space to fit on a 2" wide belt and another set that will fit alot tighter that will be PALS/MOLLE compatible. Got it sorted out and put on one of my bags. It is totally solid.

Ok. Well I like the Keep It simple idea of doing things and making things as easy to take care of as possible. Well for backcountry use just about everybody carries paracord. But how many people carry spare leather. Well I decided to also make a retention strap out of 550 cord so if it does ever get cut or lost is is super easy to repair. Plus it swings out of the way without modifications. I think if I sell them with these it will be nicer with a webbing tag on the end instead of the knot. Lemme know what you think. Kinda been set back with the new baby in the house.

Those are some pretty good looking sheaths you made. Have you thought of sanding your edges smooth then staining/finishing? It would give your sheaths a more finished look. Though they do look good. I always rough sand the edges, stitch then sand again because the edge can bulge a little.

I am just trying to wrk out all the little details still and get the final draft. The finished ones will have all the bells and whistles in the looks department.
