I thought for my son's first knife it might be fun to refurbish an old Cub Scout knife and give it to him for Christmas (he's 7 years old). It came out really nice, but took wayyyy longer than I anticipated. Mostly because I've never worked on a knife other than standard polishing / sharpening and it was a lot of 1 step forward - 2 steps back type of deal. I still need to sharpen it, but other than that it's done. Fun learning experience, but I don't think I'll be tackling this again for a while.
Here's some before and after pics.

Looks great! Hopefully he will come to know how much time and love you put into it.

Well done. The next one will go more quickly. Do you have an approximate range of years for this knife?

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Yeah, those years make sense to me. That's what drew me to the knife. I don't remember if it was my first knife or not, but I had one of these as a kid in Cub Scouts which would have been around 1980 or so.... It's probably still out in the woods somewhere in the Pacific Northwest :)

Great job. A boy's first knife. A right of passage for boys (and girls) lucky enough to have someone like austin73 looking out for them.

Looks like brand new!

Nicely done!

best
