(Finished Page 3) WIP Copper Liners & Wood Scales for my BK14

Thanks guys. The copper was not as hard to work with as I had anticipated. If any of you are contemplating giving it a try I say go for it. The hardest part was just pounding on the pipe to open it up then hammer it flat.

Looks great, that copper is a nice touch. Does seem like it could use a bit more slimming down/shaping. When I think about the scraps you used to make this it seems even cooler.

Have you heard of the super glue finish? I have never done it myself but have seen it done online and it looks nice and is supposed to be tough and easy. You should Google it and let me know what you think about it.
Mauser I tried the superglue on the last set I had made for my 14 I was really happy with the durrability but it was trickier to get it looking how i wanted it. If I wasn't careful when i was buffing the glue with my dremel it would start to melt it, also sometimes I would buff down to the wood and then have to add more glue.........Hard call because i know it looks good in the end it just takes time.

Here is the scales I did the superglue on. If I decide to to it on these ones I will definitely throw up some pictures of the process.

Looks great man! Ive used copper liners before and they look awesome

Thanks! Im still a green pea though. I might just make one again with copper liners after seeing yours.

That would be cool man! I just love how the copper pops with the dark wood, I'm hoping once I slim down the scales and seal them they will look a little darker.

The copper look cool. I think it would look good between the stock black handles and black steel of the bigger Beckers. I might have to try that (if I can get my hands on some copper pipe).

Give it a try man! The copper was easy to work with once I got it all flat. You can pick up some copper pipe at any hardware store. If you are looking to use it on the larger beckers be sure to get 3/4 inch not 1/2 inchwhat I had was half inch and once it was split there was barely enough room cover a large handle. You should be able to get it at just about any hardware store.

I live in Japan so I'll be shopping in a Japanese hardware store. I'm never sure what I'll be able to find. But I'm planning to go take a look tomorrow.

Neat to hear your experience with the super glue finish. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with here.

Hey guys I slimmed down the handles today and now it feels great. I also heated up the bolts so they darkened and would not contrast so much with the blade. I took some more pictures, these ones are in sunlight so hopefully they are better. I will post some more once I seal up the handle. I have decided on using the superglue method. I will most likely make another thread on that but ill put some pictures and a link to it here.

Let me know what you think of the slimmer handle and the bolts. Thanks for taking a look at my little project :-)

Thanks again guys, now go have fun with your Beckers :-)

Well, I gotta say that I think that is pretty slick. I had never seen copper spacers before. It contrasts well with the black tang. I think it would even look good between the black tang and the black grivory in the bigger Beckers. Nice job!

Nsvens89----GREAT JOB !!! I am also in WNY area. I have been looking for a handle for my BK14 as well.

Thanks man! Yeah I'm bouncing back and forth between buffalo and batavia. But will be moving to buffalo in less than a month. The 14 scales were really not that hard to make. It only took a few afternoons. They are definitely fun to make though! :)

NO KIDDING ? I can be there in about 7 minutes to Applebees/W-Mart/A-Zone stoplight in Bat. Small world.

Cool looks, needs a leather sheath now. ;)

You are absolutely right, I am toying with the idea of getting some leather and giving it a try.........or I might contact one of the great makers on here. Haven't decided yet.
