So, you may have seen the hatchet that I re-finished to give it character....

Well, it needed a sheath, so I made one of those too....

And I think it came out pretty good...

Let me know what you think.

I love everything about it, copper hardware can not be beat for style with brown leather.
i'd carry that the rest of my life happily.

I think it is awesome. I also think you should start making leather pouches. I'd love to see a little belt pouch of that same color/style, with the tie-closure. And, you should send it to me for "testing" :p:D

What size and shape of leather pouch would you like to see?

What would you use it for?

I'd probably use it for stashing a small sharpening stone, some firemaking supplies, and a small altoid-tin first aid kit. Never really thought about dimensions before, though.

Well, give it some thought, as you like, and I may do something like that up, sounds like a fun project.

I am enjoying working with leather much more than I thought I would.

Not sure on shapes, but some sort of oval-ish would probably look traditional. About 4" wide and 6" deep would be easy to carry, with a drop-loop able to fit wide belts and still be easy accessed while wearing a pack with a waist strap.

So, you are considering something pretty old school, like what a guy might have worn a hundred years ago.

Yeah, that's the essence. Something you might have seen a fur trapper or long hunter wearing on their belt to keep their flint and steel in. Basically like a possibles pouch.

I second the pouch idea. Your work has an awesome look to it.

I absolutely love the looks of that sheath. However, I hope I can offer some constructive criticism without it coming off the wrong way.

From a "usability" standpoint, there is one main thing I would change. I don't like an axe with a "top exiting" sheath. If worn on the belt (which is not that common) the long handle makes maneuvering it out of the sheath difficult. If it attached to a pack, which is more likely, the handle presents the same problem.

However, that is personal preference, for which there is never a right answer for :D

Another possible small tweak is leaving the poll exposed. It would allow you to do light hammer work without sheath removal.

Overall, that thing is incredible!

Nice Job on the Sheath Marion, Look's Great and I sure Nuff like It, Thank's for sharing the picture's

I agree this is a good idea. My Estwing sheath leaves the poll exposed and it's handy to be able to pound w/o taking it off. Nice work.

Awesome hatchet sheath Marion, I like the simplistic style. Look forward to seeing the pouches.
