After alot of work and a ton of learning, I finished the bowie.

I thought I would post it here because of how much help you all have been for this project in particular. I went from super easy designs and mediocre (IMO) work to this to test my skills. This was started 5 months into knifemaking and then after tinkering on it every now and then during the school year, finally finished it and the sheath last month.
I am still trying to figure out knife photography so I took alot!

Dimensions:
Blade-8"
Handle-5"
1/4" thick 1084 steel with clayless hamon.

What do you think of it?

Thanks

ETA: Boy, taking picture of hamon is fun :p

I will not be the first ... or the last ... to tell you that knife is stunning! Excellent job. The handle is especially well done.

Beautiful period, but amazing for a relatively new maker. You should be very proud.

SU...perb, that is top notch all the way round. Congratulations!

The handle seems a bit on the skinny side but the work is excellent. Did you do the leather as well?

Yes I made the sheath too.

I agree, that was one of the design flaws that I didn't realize at my level of skill that many months ago.

I was going to ask about the sheath as well.
Please tell me it's not your first ever sheath!?
(you should also post it in the sheath section of this forum)

No, its not my first. I have made 6 others and did leatherwork for about 2 years. I actually was lead to knifemaking through leatherworking. I made some sheaths for a friends handmade knives and I was just awestruck at how cool they were and now here I am.

very nice as everyone has mentioned,
The front part of the handle seems a bit on the small side.
I've never made a bowie but I'm going by other makers work and how it looks in your hand.

oh I see i4Marc i4Marc already observed this and you responded,

Your work is very professional including the sheath. I hope to see more knives on this forum made by you. You should be proud of this knife...don't sell it but rather keep it to give yourself reference to how you progress as a knife maker. Just my opinion. Larry
