WOW is right especially seeing the before and after of the handle blanks......quite beautiful.....

Should I ask if there is an accompanying scabbard?
 
no scabbard - I think he's going to have one made.


I took a closer-up picture of the ring area. I think perhaps the first two photos are creating a bit of an optical illusion. The ring is definitely there - see the old handle pic. In the process of refinishing it, smoothed it down a bit.

Have a look at the pic (taken straight on the right hand side of the handle, blade is upside down) and you'll see that there still is some rise in the ring, so to speak. :D

Just not as much as we're used to, and like Howard said, the drop in handle diameter creates the same effect.

Also, I did have to do some sanding down, shaping, etc. for the handle and bolster to match. So, part of the ring notching was removed. I restored it with a small triangular file (Norton) - which is what you're looking at on the leftmost rings.
