Got 'em finished and shaving sharp last night.

SubHilt Chiruwa and AK Bowie

attachment.php

Perhaps at some future point, it would be nice to have a "Mods Thread"...where everybody posts pics of what they've done with their khukuris. I think that would be very interesting to see and great for new ideas....as well as for new khukuri owners and basically anybody interested in just foolin' around.

Enjoy!

I really like the grain in this chiruwa....very interesting banding.

Simply faulous Dan!

Have you officially hung out your shingle as a knife maker? Or are you only taking orders from folks who can persuade you? Do you have a standard price list for services?

Very nice, Dan.

I was thinking before that the last pin on the Bowie handle must have been a little tricky. It looks like a pretty tight tolerance and not alot of wood to work with there.

So are you, in fact, open for business? My AK Bowie was hinting around about a sub hilt just last night ..... Not that I talk to my knives or anything..

Here's a better picture, Bamboo. I guess if this was plain-ole wood I might be worried about it. But it's stabilized and very solid. If it does ever crack, or if the owner doesn't like it (or has any concerns about it) he knows he can return it. (same with anybody) I'm not in this to turn a quick buck. I'm in it for the fun!! :p

I wonder what would happen if we sent the kamis these pics.....:D  :o

Thanks Dan. There is a little more meat there than I thought. Nice taper on the tang too. I've always thought that makes a nice statement on a knife.

For once I hope I get out sharked in any future UBDOTD's ... thus, I can save my money for a custom sub hilt AK Bowie by DK w/ a Vess Leather sheath. :D

It never ends, does it ............

Dan, your overall fit and finish is professional looking. I envy that- it's a very cool look.

Great work, Dan:) I'm going to have to get a piece made by you one day.

Nice work Dan, looks much better than the first pics you posted of
'em. :p ;) :D
Munk's right, very nice fit and finish! :D

What are the species of wood on them again? Did you put a finish on them or are they as polished?
