Finished

Looks absolutely great, Dan. Eager to try her out. Names, anyone (for the subhilt)?

Oh- my address has changed. I'll email you.

Definitely write up your impressions of this specially handled khukuri, Spectre! It really came out nice aesthetically, and even has a guard which you always wanted. :)

I would imagine that you would have a lot more control with the sub hilt than in a khukuri with a standard handle. You'll be able to use more force, and it's certainly nice to have the psychological factor that if your hand does slip a bit, you have a guard between your hand, and a super duper sharp blade. :D

Congratulations on a really nice mod...

Don't forget, though....this is a chiruwa AK....the blade is built like a tank. It is massive. No swordplay with this one.

I knew the subhilt idea would work well, but didn't really begin to appreciate it until I began the final finishing and sharpening. It is an impressive grip and you really can control it very well. I surprised myself with it....funny how that goes sometimes.

Spectre - got your email.

Green Ice - the woods are stabilized woods from AlphaKnifeSupply.com. Redwood and Maple burls.

Yvsa - the finish is 800 grit (by hand) with wax buffed in (also by hand). No "topcoat" needed.

Bamboo - the tang was very tricky. Needed quite a bit of straightening. Also, you might notice I beveled the front of the handle on the inside so that it would overlap the blade and make for a nicer transition. That took a few evenings to get it right.

Everyone else - thank you for the kinds words. This Bowie Mod is now on my website for future reference (as is the SubHilt Chiruwa).

Hope to see more.

Totally awesome work as always, Dan!

I wish I had some online pix of Kris Kringle to show off 2the newbs, one of your earlier works...

Folks at the HIMWKK04 got to see Dan in action, and see DIJ's Bowie/skinner rig B4 it shipped.

Wow Dan, those are awesome! One question. Could you do a sub hilt on a Sirupati? Or can you only do them on the full tang khuks?

Dan, it's funny that when I google you, I get the Bladeforums and not your website. Methinks somebody posts often... :D :D :p
