Don't forget, though....this is a chiruwa AK....the blade is built like a tank. It is massive. No swordplay with this one.
I knew the subhilt idea would work well, but didn't really begin to appreciate it until I began the final finishing and sharpening. It is an impressive grip and you really can control it very well. I surprised myself with it....funny how that goes sometimes.

Green Ice - the woods are stabilized woods from AlphaKnifeSupply.com. Redwood and Maple burls.
Yvsa - the finish is 800 grit (by hand) with wax buffed in (also by hand). No "topcoat" needed.
Bamboo - the tang was very tricky. Needed quite a bit of straightening. Also, you might notice I beveled the front of the handle on the inside so that it would overlap the blade and make for a nicer transition. That took a few evenings to get it right.
