im getting ready to finish some bolsters made from stabilized bog oak and was wondering how you guys who have used it normally finish it. I thinking CA may be the way to go with the open grain but interested in hearing any other successful processes to this stuff.

I wouldn't use CA glue personally. I'd use a sealer/filler and wet sand with it and then wet sand with any of the various finishing oils to 1200-1500 grit or so.

Most all my bog oak gets sanded to 600/800 grit and then buffed. That is all it seems to need. If yours is grainy, use a sanding sealer or try this:
Sand to the final grit, blow off with air to get the pores empty. Put on Tru-oil or Watco and sand in with 400 grit or 4/0 steel wool. Work the slurry all over the handle ( or bolsters) and let sit for 15 minutes. Wipe the excess off and let cure 24 hours. Lightly sand and repeat a few times as needed to completely seal the grain. Finish with a light hand buffing.
I don't like to build up a coat of finish on the wood, I like the finish to be in the wood.
