Question for all:

I'm finishing a knife handle with OD Green canvas micarta. I chose canvas for its grippiness, but as I'm finishing the handles, the color fades when the micarta is dry. How can I achieve a combination of lusturous color and canvas grippiness? Or, is this impossible?

I use Mineral Oil by Equaline which is odorless, colorless and tasteless on my canvas, paper and odd stuff stuff micarta I make...brings the color right out...just dont drink the stuff:D

Polish it, Green Chrome on a 8-9" sewn buff, 3600 rpm, will buff out nice and pretty.
I take it down to 600 grit and buff it.

Here's what I do:

Rough out at 36 grit
Shape to 120 grit
Bead-blast w/ 120 grit abrasive
Clean with hot soapy water
spray with WD-40 a couple times.

After a while it really soaks it up.

That said, any oil will do and mineral oil is the least likely to "spoil" or go rancid.

I like canvas micarta a LOT...and the above method results in a very grippy handle.
