First time using linen micarta(black). I'm having a hard time finishing it to a clean solid black color. Any tip or sharing your methods will be greatly appreciated. I've been hand sanding forever, now down to600 grit. White fabric lines are very difficult to get rid of.

You should be able to get black paperbase solid black, but--- if its linen based its
likely going to show the linen lines no matter how smooth you get it.
Ken.

you'll never get a pure black, but if you buff with black compound it goes a long way toward that goal. As KC said, if you want that pitch black look you need paper based or a different material entirely.

Typically black linen is made with black died resin but the linen may very well have started white. I would say that if you desire a more uniform black color, to try either black paper micarta, or what is called double black linen or canvas. The double black is made with black resin as well as black cloth. You could try something like RIT dye after final sanding to blacken the current stuff up more.

On a piece of scrap Micarta try sanding it then dying with black Feibings oil leather dye.

HikoIto, you should be able to have a pretty dark finish with the linen. I buff mine. The trick is to shape your handle to go through the layers. If you don't go through the layers you'll have a lot of white blotches.
