Finn Ranger Puukko

I hear tell that's the knife all the Finnish sissies(sp?) carry. In fact I was under the impression that it was the Official Sissy Puuko of the Finnish army. Can somebody (elen) confirm that? If it's good enough for a sissy, it's good enough for me, albeit presently out of my price range, sigh.:)

Heh, check out that review I wrote... I try to explain the word "Sissi" too.

The Finnish army has no official knife, everybody can use what they want, but the Sissi Puukko is sold in the army, and many do buy one

Has anyone bought this knife? Do you like it?

It's a very good knife, and like Attej said, while it isn't "official issue" in the Finnish army, it is very popular and designed for military use. It's an excellent user - not so much a collector, because the fit and finish is intentionally poor. Very easy to sharpen, cuts well, and the thickness gives it strength and toughness enough for batoning and some prying, and the length and profile gives it excellent penetration in stabs. The handle gives a good grip, and is comfortable even when wet or in freezing weather. It is not, however, designed for entry tool type of use, and heavy prying will bend or break it. (Perhaps PatriotDan will chime in here, as he I believe has experience using this knife for entry tool type stuff.) The sheaths, by the way, are excellent for factory sheaths.

I like the knife very much, and while it doesn't have any latest and greatest supersteel, it's an excellent tool, especially for the price it goes for over here in Finland. There is also a shorter version M/07 for those who think the M/95 has too much blade.

Nice review. Good pics. Succinct and fair. Thanks for the review. The only problem is that it made me want one even more than before.:)

I have the M07 and I like it very much.
The knife is very sober, just as I like it, made to use.
Flat ground diff. harded carbonsteel with very slick teflon coating.
I'm even thinking to get a second one.

But if I see the price at Kellam, I would certainly take a Fallkniven S1 instead.
Same size, vg10 and convex edge but can be found for 110-115$
(In Europe the S1 is much more expensive than the M07)

They have a different feeling although.
