Fire Axe (?) ID

This was heading towards the dumpster when rescued. I know nothing (ala Sgt. Schultz) about this type of blade
The only mark I could find is that "P" I took a picture of.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
It was in a town called Lakewood, NJ.

After watching a video of a similar axe could this be what is referred to as a "school bus axe"?
I think they need to start issuing them again!

My dad grew up in Beach Haven,NJ. He remembered seeing the Hindenberg fly over the island the day it blew up. He was 15 at the time.

Most likely a School bus axe. Head made by Marion Tool Co . #2 might stand for size catalog number not actual weight

I'm 65yo and may or may not remember these. What did they plan on using these for?
I remember we had drills where we jumped out of the back door but I don't remember anyone grabbing "the axe". Lol

I remember seeing similar axes on the school bus some 35 years ago. They would have probably been used to break the windows or possibly smash through the door if it got stuck in an emergency.

Nothing nefarious, that's the difference between then and now. Imagine having an axe handy on a school bus now.

That head does have that cast texture doesn't it and the stamp could have been pressed after casting and the seam ground away.

I think I have come across their hatchets with off size eyes. Buying them because I liked the haft and then discovering they had an under sized eye.
They functioned well enough the geometry wasn't bad., prone to breaking though.

I also have a couple Marion’s. The handles do feel nice.
