there was a thread just about a month ago about diffrent fire starting methods. it was one mans test of thisworks for me. he tryed many diffrent thing and used some fire gel, i didn't use the same stuff as him but i found some at wal-mart made buy dimond so i tested it. it is all natrual and lights with a small spark, burns clean and long heres what impressed me i lit it and let it burn blew it out came back 1 hour later. it still relit with a small spark let it burn blew it out again, came back in 2 hours. it still relit with a small spark. the evaportion rate is next to nell, i think it would be a good one for those who care small amounts of fuel for fire starting. it doesn't take much and in a container it most likely would last a very long time. anyone else try the dimond brand for extinded storage aka day pack or b.o.b?

i also did a post call other names for fat wood someone post for this super cedar so i tryed it burns well ,but you have to make sure it can breath and to light with a firesteel it must be crumbled up then it doesn't burn so well. ill stick with fat wood.

I can't remember who was storing the couglins gel in the plastic match case, but I'm interested to hear how it's holding up.

That would be me. The post just prompted me to check on it. It's fine, but it's only been a week or two. It doesn't look like the goop got past the threads so not contact with the O ring. I'll store it on its side near something warm. If it still doesn't get past the threads, I'll feel better about it. As it is, the case is inside a zip lock bag just in case.

Also- I just picked up a couple of 1 oz. disposable liquid parafin candles for $1 each at Walmart. They are made from light but strong plastic, and the whole thing weighs 1.4 oz. I've had one burning for the last 2 hours and 45 minutes and it's a little less than 2/3 full. I hope to get 8 hours. They also had a 3 oz. version for about $1.50.

(Sorry- didn't mean to hijack the thread.)

thanks for comming in with the update. this is a fire thread all types of info on fire are welcome, i am always looking for new stuff and methods of fire starting and maintaining. warm, cook, light, hardening yur wood tools. best tim allen voice i make fire hurrrr hurrr. i like to share the new fire stuff i find and learn as well.

Okay, then...

As it stands, at 4 hours, it was half empty. I'll get 8 hours of heat and light for 1.4 oz. This will replace a wax candle that weighs 2.6 ounces, takes up three times the space, and won't burn anywhere near 8 hours. You can see them here:http://www.amazon.com/Lamplight-Farms-61155-Liquid-Candle/dp/B000UGTHJE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1234064006&sr=8-3

Amazon's price is way more than the $1 each I paid at Walmart. Also- one of the two reviewers on Amazon claims 15 hours. I'll be happy with 8.

These are as big around as votive candles.

all rite this stuff realy rocks let it sit out for 25 hour it has been lit 4 times and has turnd solid and still lites with just a spark :thumbup: way up for this product
