If anyone has one on backorder, we're getting close to shipping another 250 pieces to dealers/distributors. Hang in there with us. Also got word that another Mfg. will be making similar kits in the future. Looks like they will be made in China so probably much cheaper than ours. They emailed me wanting to see our paperwork. I figured it was just a matter of time before someone knocked it off. Can't win in this game with a good idea.

Ehh, I would rather buy a piece of RAT gear than any other piece of gear out there. I know and trust the RAT pack more than anyone else. I don't care if they pay us for them, I still rather have the RAT piece of gear. :)

That sucks Jeff. :(

I just came in under the wire and picked one up from Derrick. I'll buy more of them and they'll be RAT brand, regardless of price.

I'll only be purchasing the real deal. If it doesn't say RAT I don' want it. ;)

I think RAT quality speaks for itself. There are plenty of Chinese knives out there and we choose otherwise. I'm pretty sure RAT Fire kits will still be a hot item!!

imitation is the best form of flattery and all that rot...

no worries Jeff, people want the quality you have become famous for... sales can attest to that.

Hopefully one day I'll be able to get around to getting one of these...a real one from RAT that is. I love the concept.

So far my RAT family consists of a RC-4 and an Izula.

I was thinking the same thing Chris. Did they actually have the nerve to email you asking for your help ripping you off?

We will NOT have any of the Chinese knock off's on our website.

I cant wait to get these back in stock. I have used the RAT Fire Kit many times, its A-OK!

I may have jumped the gun on this just a little. Since my posting on BFs, the guy has emailed back and explained he's just a small company that's been doing fire steels for some time. He wanted patent documentation to make sure he does not infringe on our design. Which is honorable, in my opinion. At least he asked while a lot of companies will just rip you off and never even ask. As I told him, I'm a little bit gun shy nowadays since we are still involved in a court battle over our own name (that a large company is doing their very best and spending lots of $$ on attorneys to take from us). When I first saw his email all I could think is "here we go again." So, in the end, I think the guy just likes the concept of the capsule with the ferro rod and will be making his own version. The sad part, to me, is they are going to be made in China.

For what it is worth, I support you guys and you guys get free advertising from me.
What sucks is think of all the savings said large company could be passing on to their customers if they werent spending that money in litigation...
Jeff and Mike, you guys seem to be great people with great products helping to keep the American dream alive. Keep it up!

I'll buy the American product from the stand up guys at RAT.

I've bought too many "Look! It's the same thing!" ripoffs in my time.
I've got all my "need" gear, now I'm just buying the good stuff when I have the dough.

We appreciate that guys, but I now understand that the guy that's doing these new kits is just a small businessman trying to make a living as best he can. I don't fault him for going where he has to go to have stuff built, but RAT will always stay in the US with our product manufacturing, and we will be higher in price. With that said, the ferro rod that we use does come from Asia, but we manufacture the kit and everything else here.

I agree, and that's why we keep our manufacturing inside the United States. Again, our policy is not as much about profit as it is about quality, customer service and supporting our fellow Americans.

Everyone that is still going to China for actual manufacturing needs hasn't learned the lesson yet. Hard lesson. In a consumer-based economy, there won't be anyone to consume any-damned-thing if they don't have good paying jobs that not only keep them out of a refrigerator box for a "home" but also give them some degree of disposable, discretionary income. All of these people are cutting their own throats and they don't even realize it even though the aftermath of this sort of behavior is in the news every, single day.

Thirteen years ago, Wal-Mart was really new here in Maryland. You would go in there, people were helpful, dare I say...cheerful. EVERYWHERE the signs were hanging "MADE IN THE USA" and "PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA." Their prices were competitive, etc. When they drove everyone out of business, the prices kept going up and the quality kept going down the crapper. Marauding the retailers was not the last trick they would pop, they then went after the manufacturing area.

Anyway, dumb people learn lessons eventually or when they run out of people to blame.

The RAT Fire Kit is a steal at under $30.00
