Fire Kits

I'm not even North American, but Costa Rica still in Central America, anyway, most cleaver people here prefer pay a bit more for American products that cheap chinesse crap, Let put this way: "If not RAT fire kit then fire bow drill"

That's why we keep our manufacturing inside the United States. Our policy is not as much about profit as it is about quality, customer service and supporting our fellow Americans.

I have 2 RAT fire kits on back order and can't wait to get them, I will stay away from the China stuff, gotta go RAT! Nicely said Billy!

Everyone that is still going to China for actual manufacturing needs hasn't learned the lesson yet. Hard lesson. In a consumer-based economy, there won't be anyone to consume any-damned-thing if they don't have good paying jobs that not only keep them out of a refrigerator box for a "home" but also give them some degree of disposable, discretionary income. All of these people are cutting their own throats and they don't even realize it even though the aftermath of this sort of behavior is in the news every, single day.

I've been screaming that for years.
Fell on deaf ears.

"I told you so." Just isn't that satisfying.
<sigh> People never learn. . .

"Those that cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana

Revised for The New Millennium - "Those that do remember the past are condemned to repeat it with those that do not remember the past because we are outnumbered."

I'm sure that the product that comes out by the other entity will be "OK." I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, I'm basically a cynic. The Chinese CAN do an excellent job when they are told to do something correctly! I have seen it with my own eyes. The only problem is, most people have them make it as cheap as possible and they screw it up. Look at the standard USGI Matchsafe, it's a great piece of gear! When Ozark Trails, a division of Wal-Mart as far as I know, wanted to copy it, they made it blaze orange which is OK for high visibility, but it is much thinner and they just didn't have to do it that way. They could have made it as robust as the original. BLAH! Might seem like a minor point but it's important. They can't even make a decent electric can opener or hand operated can opener for sale at China-Mart. I was telling Derrick at KFS yesterday on the phone my Wife and I use a P-38 (not the pistol although that would be cool to shoot a can of green beans!) in the kitchen because we're tired of buying can openers that don't work!

And here's the other issues, when we go overseas to manufacture something it is hard as hell to get something corrected when it is wrong from the manufacturer. Mike Perrin found this out when we did the only folding knife we've ever done. After we got prototypes we asked them to correct a small issue that we had notified them of BEFORE they manufactured the production run. When we got the production run they had not fixed it. We asked them to re-work everything at their expense (won't say what it was or who we were dealing with). They told us "NO." What could we do? They were already paid for and shipped. That left a bad taste in my mouth with these supposed "excellent manufacturers with great pricing." And this was supposedly the best man in the business when it comes to overseas knife manufacturing. The bottom line is we're done ever trying to manufacture in Asia again. I understand why people go overseas, but I will assure you that those who go overseas cannot offer the warranty and customer service that we do and stay in business. MADE IN THE U.S.A. is our motto.

Thanks, Tony. Didn't realize we could post pics in our signatures. Just never paid attention. So when I saw your American and Texas flag, I thought I would do the same. America First!

With all the bad stuff going on in today's world I think it's about time someone started an American Flag campaign for the folks that still believe this is the greatest country on Earth. I know it's not politically correct to believe or say that anymore but it's the way I feel, and to hell with anyone who gets their feelings hurt by me saying it.

I wish I could say the same about my own country.

Amen! Thanks for promoting the idea of a USA flag for an avatar.

Hi Rat packers, I agree with most of the above comments about supporting you own country, I feel the same way about my country (Australia).I would go further tho and say that when we need to buy from overseas we should support those countries with the same values and wage structures as our own. Our troops are fighting side by side (all be it in much smaller numbers we're only a small population) with yours for the same reasons. It seems to me that countries like yours and mine need to support each other on every level. Oh buy the way love my RC4 !!
Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Keep up the great work Jeff,
Richard
