Fire making today

Lit a fire with jute, fatwood and firesteel. Made a few mistakes and had to redo my birds nest a few times.
Knives of the day were my JK Kephart HD (Stomper) and Busse SFNO LE. I really am getting partial to these two blades as a perfect set to bring along!
Here was my afternoon and it was perfect weather today!

Great pics! Thats a pretty area you live in. Just plain love the handles on that kephart..I'm having a steamy torrid affair with colors that look like dry winter grass right now. Might I ask what the black n grey dingus on the right of your pack is? best to you freind. Anrkst

Jennifer Andrews sent that (freebie) with a knife Brian made for me. Nice little setup.

Th is a Gorilla Grip (I think thats the name) that wraps around a tree with the camera monuted on it. It's a camera tripod with heavy duty flex arms.

My guess: Ranger beads

My birds nests were too loose. I lit about four of them, all with jute and fatwwod at the center. 1 firesteel strike on each nest and instant flame. I need to twist and wrap them up tighter so they don't burn up right away.

Well how cool is that! I've used a similar thing with measuring devices in the shop..never though of hooking the camera to one! That kind of rocky terrain is a place I'd like for sure. My fire starter set up is similar to yours too, all on one lenght of cord, less easy to lose/misplace that way.

Good to see that Kephart out getting used. You still need to come by the shop someday.

And it performed well. Very pleased with this blade and the handle melts into my palm!
After the holidays are over I'll have to swing by for a bit.

Look like a great time out. Starting a fire is just so awesome and then sitting by it and just relaxing is a great way to recharge so to speak.

Good stuff bro! This is definately the season to get out and practice your firemaking skills. Thanks for sharing.

Man, good stuff! Looks like a great time out! Sounds like you learned some tips for the next time too with the birds nests.

Nice pics! What pouches do you have on your E/E??? I've been looking to buy one and am trying to figure out what will give much more room, yet still fit on the pack???

Yesterday it had a GPS pouch on one side and a Maxpedition mini roly poly (rolled up) on the other and a kifaru organizer on the front.
This pic has a SS Guyot in the side pouch.
