I got a Mora 2000 "Survival Knife" recently. Time to test it out a little. After reading all about them, I figured I could afford a couple. Way cheaper than a Bear Grylls knife. Man what a dime store cheap-looking art deco knife! It comes in a funky plastic sheath with fake leather texturing to match the plastic handle. Wierd looking.

It does have a real leather belt loop, though. A concession to traditionalists, no doubt.

It has a thin 4.5" blade of 12C27 steel. It slices very well, I just make sorry fuzz sticks.

Time to take out my baton and whack it some!

Yea, thats the dichotomy. Cheap and ugly, but good steel, good edge, and again, cheap. Its a winner.

The Mora notches well, but it makes hideous tent stakes.

Just for fun, I hammered it through this limb, beating on the pommel hard. Nothing broke or came loose. This is beginning to trouble me.

Time to build a fire. Who cares if my fuzz sticks suck? There are ways. Like gathering up some of these palm fronds. Like gasoline, and much cheaper.

It rained most of the night, so everything is wet.

cool pics... love the no non-sense review.... i have yet to try one of those mora 2000's...

I know what would really get the fire going. Some dry palm tree fibers. Makes super tender. That old rotten hollow palm looks promising!
Coon022.jpg

Oh yeah, this is the stuff! These fibers are very tough to cut.
Coon011.jpg

Uh-oh! Looks like I have disturbed something. He is chattering at me!

Sorry, fella. I only need a little.

I found this chunk of fat lighter (fatwood). I'll use the Mora to get some nice aromatic shavings to overcome the damp wood.
Coon016.jpg

Oh yeah, this will burn.
Coon021.jpg

This is where I like a bigger knife. No problem, I just hammer the Mora right through it.
Coon018.jpg

A flic of my Bic, and we have ignition!

I don't know how long the Mora could take this use, but it seems like a pretty good little knife.

I'm loving this thread. I like my Mora2000 a lot, but at $30 instead of the usual Mora $8 price range, I think I only need one.

Nice write up and pics. I have always wanted to try the 2000, I think it's the only Mora style I haven't used.

This is one of your best yet Vic, great pics of the Raccoon, made me laugh when I read that bit !:D

I am trying to un-brainwash the Mora zombies on here Vic and a post like this does not help my cause at all !!!!:thumbdn:
Gonna have to go and price up those damn Mora 2000's now !!!!!!:(

Pit's ultimate nightmare:

Maisy comes in from running around outside with a Mora brand milkbone. Pitdog screams, "NOOOO! Not you too!"

Actually, as strange as the Mora 2000 looks, it is a very comfortable knife to use. It cuts well, and I didn't baby it at all. When I drove it through the limb with a baton, it held together well. It would be ideal for day hikers or backpaking. Very light.
