All this mess started this morning with the hot dry winds we get. I took some pics on my way home from work today (with my cell, sorry for the poor quality). There are two major feeways leaving Orange County Ca, which is where I work, both were shut down as of when I left, and traffic is insane! A few friends of mine had to leave work eary because of their neighborhoods being evacuated. There are three major fires in the area last I heard, all are destroying homes left and right. I heard that as of 3pm or so here that 10,000 people have been evacuated from the area. Luckily (aside from having to get through the traffic to go home) I live Morth of the fires in a separate valley so my home and family are safe, but I have many friends in the area of the fire and so far so good aside from evacuations. I pray this all gets under control fast.

That is pretty true, but it really technically starts in October. That is when fires tend to be really large and spread out.

I am in San Bernardino and could see the smoke. When the wind kicked up I knew there would be fires.

For some reason most of the fires out here are cause by arson. With Santa Ana winds blowing there is not stoping the fire from spreading.. Last night i went on a bike ride up to Angeles crest. Twice i got blown of the road. At above 7,000ft the wind was so strong that it felt as if i hit the brakes. I got my nieces over tonight as my sister had to clear the house. Going hiking in the hills after a fire is a real eye opener.

Hope every one comes out of this one in good shape. At least here in ND we only have the cold, snow I can live threw that.
What does a forest fire, earth quake, mud slide and an ex-wife in California have in common?

Answer:

Eventually one of them will get the house.

We were in Forest Falls (San Bernardino National Forest) yesterday, and it occured to me that if a fire started down canyon, there would be no way to get out of there! Very heavy old growth, brushy forest, particularly on the north facing slope. They really need to do control burns in there, because if that place goes up there is no stopping it!

Wow, today was another crazy day. Freeways reopening and closing again. When I left for work this morning before sunrise, I looked south at a good vantage point on the freeway and could see the entire face of the hills burning, and I mean burning. I have seen MANY fires on those hills, and this is the worst I have ever seen it. to give an idea, if you look at the map and the hilly range between my home and my work, the southern face of it on the work side was burning yesterday. What I saw this morning was the entire north side in flames. I wish I could have taken a pic of it, incredible sight. An image I will not forget. But, all of my friend's home are ok (for now), there is one guy at work who left early yesterday to go get his animals and as of noon today I heard he had not been able to get near his house and does not know the status of it or his animals.

wow.. i wish you folks luck over there christian..:) you're always welcome to come north for a bit, if needs be...:)
