Fire Starting.....40 ways

Glycerin and Potassiun Permanganate ( I have done this real cool)
road flare
stove eye
Fresnel lens
Potassium Permanganate and Sugar (heard it works)
Spark from electral outlet

chlorine and brake fluid (havent tried it, but it is rumoured to explode/burst into flame)

I can start a fire by glaring at tinder with raw seething fury.

I've always wanted to try starting a fire with one of those strikers used to ignite acetylene torches. Good replacement flints for those are dirt cheap.

you are going to love this one...

POTASIUM CHLORATE + SULFURIC ACID...

Powder is better...

You can get the potasium clorate from Orravan pills... sold for sore throat... and you can get the sulfuric acid from evaporating car battery fluid (careful... when white smoke starts to form... you are evaporating the acid itself!). Don't ask me why I know this.

Carbide and spit - add spark
It was used for the headlamps when splunking.

Potasium permagenate and sugar does work but you have to grind them together.

Friends, be careful about posting and experimenting with chemical compositions. We tend to assume that everyone viewing here is a competent adult, but that just isn't so. No one under the age of 13 may join BladeForums.com, but I would not want a child of 13 doing these experiments.

Some of the components being discussed are lethal in their own right even before being combined. Combined, you are making an improvised explosive device (or telling others how to do so). At best, such experiments are dangerous as fumes and violent reactions occur. At the extreme, it can be lethal and/or land you in dire legal circumstances.

I absolutely agree with what Codger wrote above. Actually most of the methods mentioned so far have various levels of risk involved. Please ecercise caution in trying any of these methods you are not familiar with (get training). I work as a chemist so I have seen the results of people with inexperience working with chemicals and reactions.

In a survival situation i can use the AT4 :D :D :D

Too Funny:D:thumbup:

I actually spent some time yesterday trying to start a fire with one of those strikers. No luck but I was not trying really hard. I think I'll go back in the shop and give it another go. The main problem is that the sparks stay in that little cup area. Got to get them really close to the tinder I guess.

I saw a video from my library "40 Ways To Start A Fire Without A Match".

I highly recommend you find it.
