Yes I used the SAK as a striker and it works great. I also found the tweezers useful for pulling out the Vaseline covered cotton balls that I have stuffed inside the kit.

I'm going to attach one to my RAT firestarter like you did. It never hurts to have a seperate striker plus I just don't want to dull my RC-5 blade on it. However, in a pinch I would certainly use any knife. I also need to get a little container for some cotton balls. All are going into the pouch on the RC-5 sheath.

Between the two choices I'd choose the LMF firesteel. I have the army model attached to the sheath of one of my knife sheaths, a standard model attached to another. I'm even more a fan of the magnesium black with the striker attached to it. There are few different models available, go to ebay and type in "magnesium fire starter."

the RC fire kit has a built in container :D
