Fire with a Tomahawk only-Try it!

I sold my Tomahawk to friend a good while back. But I've done this with an axe or hatchet several dozen times.

Try it with just a GB mini.

G'day Ruben

Yes sir, carbon steel rules.

I take it you do realise that stainless steels will also readily strike a spark from both firesteels & mischmetal rods?

What matters with firesteels & mischmetal rods is not the type of steel, but the edge used (ie a rounded edge doesn't work anywhere near as good as a squared edge).

Striking a spark with flint is a different matter.

BTW, a small hatchet also works well as a wood plane (from June 2009)...

....and the handle & head of a small hatchet makes a hell of a lot more comfortable grip when used for extended periods of time than the head of a tomahawk by itself (especially when the head has been deliberately removed).

And the handle of a hatchet is as easy to replace.

Kind regards
Mick
