  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Firearm chatter. it's like Pandora's box....it can't be closed!

If you get a Tarus model 66 made by Tarus USA it is made on the S&W 686 tooling machines. I have one in stainless 4" barrel. I also have a Dan Wesson 44 mag (before CZ bought them) great wheel guns. Easy to use and learn. Less moving parts.

oh, and i blew my handgun pursuit at lunch today. i have about a $400 credit at my local gunshop (sold a rifle). i was going to put it toward a handgun. but, they didn't really have what i wanted.

so, i just ordered a Henry .22 with the octagonal barrel. that will come with me squirrel hunting. so, i could justify that one a bit easier.

meanwhile, thanks to you guys and my newly acquired handgun knowledge, i will be keeping an eye out for a good deal on one i want. i really like that S&W 13!

I don't have the octagon barrell Henry .22 but I do have the standard lever action .22 from Henry and it's a sweet little shooter, you should love that gun:thumbup:

Dude,you got my old DW.
I had that same gun back in the day,but had to sell it when I got out of the Marines in 90.
I love the vent rib & solid under lug on the 8" shroud along with the wide smooth trigger & the lowered beavertail hammer spur.(IIRC the original blued version didn't have the lowered hammer spur.)
That and the Anaconda are the only 44s I could shoot for sh*t.
I've had a couple of Blackhawks,a Super Redhawk & a 10" Contender,but couldn't shoot 'em worth a damn.
The Dan Wessons(old school)& Colt Anaconda are the best friggin 44s out there IMO.

I had one of the original New Henrys in the late 90s & it was a sweet, smooth, accurate shooter, but it always hung up the last round out of the magazine, even after getting free replacement parts from the factory.
I didn't care for all the plastic parts,or the last round hang up,but it was an accurate, smooth lever gun & levers are just plain fun to shoot.
I'm sure they have the bugs worked out by now so you should be able to take many little furry critters with it Todd, happy hunting.

i wanted to get a Browning BL-22, but that is a little too pricey for me. and, i like the Henry's. i've been wanting one for quite a while. so, i can't wait til she comes in. i was able to score a brick of ammo today too. it's like winning the lottery!

and, i may be wrong Myke, but i think the octagonal barrel ones have more metal parts on them (e.g. forend band).

the Henry .22's are good.
it would be a tough call if I had to decide between the 19 & 28 with 4" barrels - but I would probably go with the 28 for shooting comfort and the 19 for carry comfort.
I generally tell new shooters that the Browning Buckmark is a great platform for learning how to shoot a handgun.

To tell you the truth--my favorite pistol is my (I hate to say it....) High Point 40 S&W. I love the grip- I love the weight- plus I can throw it up and fire and I usually hit what I wanted to. I catch a lot of crap for loving this gun, but it shoots great. An added bonus is the $169.99 price tag (new in the box-9mm even cheaper). Lifetime waranty.
It doesn't win you any style points at the range, but it will get you started if you are on a budget.

So is this a good gun? gotta say, I like the wheel guns better but this is much more in my wheel house in terms of price.

p.s sorry todd, stealing your thread a second :foot:
