Firearms ideas

I think the standard 10/22 would make an excellent home defense weapon.
That's exactly why they offer it with a built in Lazer in the forearm, what I read is that a lot of people reported to keep a 10/22 leaned in a corner as a go-to for anything that goes bump in the night because it's reliable handy and they grew up shooting one.

Here in California you can only get the 10rd mags, but if you add an extended mag release and had pull loops on the bottom of the mags I don't see why you wouldn't have an excellent home defense gun.
10 center mass shots of any caliber as fast as you can pull the trigger should be enough to put down even the largest man.
It's not that common to need to fire more than 10 shots in a home invasion situation but a fast reload if you did do a mag dump would be a good idea.

With a little practice, you should be able to load a loaded rotary magazine pretty quickly. Many of the after market larger capacity magazines for the 10/22 are un-reliable. I have heard that the steel lips magazines are reliable however. I prefer the 10 round factory magazines personally.

In CA, I didn't think you were restricted with 22 rifles in terms of magazines. Should be easy to order a couple.

I've had a 10/22 Deluxe model since the mid-80's. The Deluxe model has a walnut stock versus birch or synthetic. For me, the 10/22 is a plinking rifle. Have others for higher accuracy performance. I bought the 10/22 for general shooting when Weatherby quit making their most excellent semi-auto rifle..... that was a mistake as the Ruger is not nearly the rifle in terms of accuracy overall. But the Ruger is okay for home defense or plinking. I know some people really think they're great.

Hickory, if you want to shoot fast and reasonably accurately (pie plate accurate) with the 10/22 you have to practice. I learned to simply point my old semi-auto rifle (not aim per se from the shoulder) with enough accuracy to hit old style christmas lights within a couple shots at about 10 yards or so. It was a lot of fun actually as I got tired aiming from the shoulder and always hitting on the first shot. ;) I have shot rabbits on the jump with that rifle from the hip too.

Sure, but I figure In a stressful waking up I the middle of the night type situation the ability to double your shot count without thought might be a good thing.
Especially for those people ( there's a lot of them out there ) who have no kids around and just lean an old 22 In the corner and call it good.
With a grip activated light / Lazer built into the forearm I think this could be a good option for a lot of people.

if you wake up and are that stressed and aren't coherent enough to know and to control and double tap without a special fancy fangled trigger ... you most likely should not fire your weapon ... it may be a family member etc ...

that "without a thought" phrase should not be anywhere near shooting an intruder ... JMO ... you're asking for trouble and worse.

You're probably right.

I wish someone would replicate the old Hi-standard Sentinel Mk IV. 9-shot 22 magnum. Gun's small enough to allow one to carry two of em. Imagine doing nine double taps. :D

This next idea isn't actually a firearm, but a cartridge.
I'd like to see something like say a 32 acp necked down to .17 for a mini .17hmr that a handgun could fire.

I don't know why but I think it would be cool.

There was a rifle cartridge before called the Ackley Peewee. It was a .30 carbine case necked down to .17 You might experiment with a shorter version for handguns.

I’d like to see the Savage model 24 come back. I know a few years ago they came out with the 42, but they were ugly in my eyes. .22Mag over 20 gauge would be my desire. I know they’re out there but I’d like to see a new run.

Why not.

Now I would actually like the 42 if the stock wasn't ass ugly, it's modern looking and well I really just don't like modern looking things.
Even If it has to be synthetic, it could at least be traditional in style.

Better aftermarket stocks for the m1 carbine, as well as more hollow points available. I believe Cor-Bon dpx is the only one available. Everything else is FMJ. Last I checked at least.
I’d have to go and dig them out but it was either Federal or Remington we’re making SJHP’s in 50 rd boxes for the carbine. Very accurate and effective. wasn’t ridiculously priced either.

Ruger has a tri-mag thing where you clip 3 of the 10-round mags together at the bottom so you can at least have a couple fresh magazines right there, flip it around and stick it back in, I have one on my 10/22 takedown, it does make the rifle look like it has balls though

I like it.
It would need to have manual extraction though so you can easily rotate and retry a round that didn't fire.
Manual extraction wouldn't sell in my opinion.

On the Savage M24.... as I recall it was very heavy. But yeah, 22 mag and either 12 or 20 ga that takes all shell lengths.

I'd like to see a couple top break revolvers for 22/22 mag. If NAA can do it, S&W could too. I think the new NAA Ranger II is going to sell like crazy.

The Ruger 10/22 is probably my favorite .22 rifle and has functioned flawlessly with the factory 25 round magazines.

I'm confident that this setup would make a reasonable defensive rifle with proper ammunition. (CCI Stingers or CCI Mini Mags)

If you add an inexpensive red dot and a light, you have a great setup that even a child can shoot well with minimal training.
