Hi folks, how many of you were viewers of the series called
Firefly?

It showed on the SciFi channel I think, since I don't have cable I never
got to see it, but have it on DVD, pretty well done, some wit in there.

Pirates with a conscience of sorts, they roam the black looking for odd jobs
here and there, mainly transporting things, usually contraband type things
but they also get some good will things done too.

A lot of humour in this, including a big guy named Jayne, I had to listen a couple
of times to make sure I heard that right!

All in all, as I've only watched 4 episodes so far, I am enjoying it a lot.

I only got interested in that when I picked up the movie
'Serenity'

From that I read that it was from the series, short lived series but
it seems it had a lot of fans.

Watched it some while I was overseas recently, kept me out of trouble
at night ;) so I wondered if any of you guys were also fans?

Yep. I hadn't even heard of the series before the movie was being hyped. Caught the movie on the big screen, got interested and picked up the series on DVD. I found the story line very interesting.

Recorded and watched each show multiple times, great series, do not understand why they can the good ones and let the trash stay on.

great show. i didn't watch it when it was airing, just borrowed the DVDs from someone

it was on Fox. they are awful about cancelling good shows.

i can think of at least 5 i'd rather see than American Idol

i literally got angry as i was getting to the end of the DVDs because there weren't many left to watch and Fox was to blame. i need to buy the DVDs and rewatch it

the rumor is that Joss Whedon is either currently, or about to be working on the sequel to Serenity

I just finished watching the DVDs, and will watch Serenity either tonight or tomorrow. Really a great series, I would probably get cable again if it was still on!!

Like you guys, I saw "Serenety", then realized that there was a series before the move. I've watched the whole saga several times through.

It was a serious shame that the show got canceled (even though I hadn't heard of it). It got canceled without notice, so the series ends mid-story, right when it was getting really interesting. Good thing they made the movie to finish the story.

FOX literally killed this series by it's own stupidity.

They aired the first few episodes out of order and kept changing the night it was on without warning.

Got Serenity (movie), loved it, and bought the series when it came out.
Watched the whole thing, beginning to end.
Love the show.

Cheers

I saw and loved the series, but haven't yet seen the movie.

If you've seen the series, I think you will really enjoy the movie
as they had a bigger budget to do it proper like.

I saw the movie and got the series, at first I thought the doc was
a different guy than the movie but turns out it's the same one, just
a bit different look, to me at least.

Not through the whole series yet, luckily ;) will finish and I'm sure later
on watch it again.

Glad to see there are others of like interest :)

I love the series and the movie. Mixing space sci-fi with the American west and Chinese language? Only something that crazy could turn out so good.

Like you Gary, I don't have cable. A co-worker kept raving about it, and finally loaned me the Firefly DVD set couple years back. Liked it so much I watched the entire series over the weekend and ordered my own copy, plus Serenity, from Amazon right then and there.

Yep, I really liked the movie, can't get my family into watching it, not sure why
must be a girl thing? either way, glad to have found it and the dvd's!

+1 for
I'd jump out an air lock for Jewel Staite!

I love the series. My roommates would watch a couple episodes every night.

Play the episode where Mal gets stranded in the desert with no clothes. That might draw some of the female interest.

Yeah I'm generally not into sci-fi at all, so a show so good that it gets even me into loving it must be pretty damn good.:)
Seriously I loved that show, it must be the wild west feel to it they had going on, which I am into very much.
Plus the chicks were really hot. That's helps too.

Too bad they canned it. There aren't many good things on tv, why can a good one?

That's what makes it so good (besides the acting and the writing). The universe that Joss Whedon created is very unique and well thought-out. The "Alliance" is based on the idea that what emerges in the future is the alliance of the world's two remaining (or dominant) superpowers, the USA (the west) and China (the East). Along side the Alliance is a giant supercorperation (Blue Sun). Seems quite possible in the future, as the world gets smaller every day. Plus, assimilation of languages allows them to swear without needing to invent any like "frak" or "smeg" or "belgium".

Other than that, it's basically pirate cowboys in space.

I also like that it borrows heavily on the "used future" idea Lucas created for Star Wars. Up until then, everything Sci-Fi in movies was shiny, worked without breaking down, nobody went hungry or struggled to survive, etc. But in Firefly (taking the cue from Star Wars, it might be the future, where we can fly planet to planet in spaceships on a whim, but all the problems remain. There's crime and poverty. People can't find work. Not everybody likes the government. Sometimes you can only make enough on one job to get enough fuel to make it to another job, if something doesn't break down on the way.

Much more interesting than Star Trek.

And +2 for Jewel Staite. It's hard not to feel warm and fuzzy whenever she smiles with her face covered in engine grease. And Summer Glau. And whatshername who played Mal's wife. And Monnica Baccarin. There certainly wasn't a shortage of hot chicks holding guns in Firefly

Fox really did drop the ball with Firefly. Moving its time slot around and airing them out of order didn't help, but Fox was really the wrong channel to begin with. If you look at Battlestar Galactica on the Sci-Fi channel, and imagine that Firefox started there, you could believe that the series would still be going, or at the very least, wouldn't have gotten canceled mid-story.
