Firefox 3 is AMAZING!

Oh snap. Finally!

I've been using Firefox since... Well, Netscape. Ish.

For anyone running Firefox, I HIGHLY recommend the NoScript plugin. I'm not sure if they have a version for Firefox 3 yet, but the two combined are one of the best browsing experiences ever. You can block any and ALL content you don't want slowing down your system, or are just plain annoyed by.

I'm downloading Firefox 3 while typing.

Just installed this minute. Wow. So much faster. Thanks for the heads up guys:thumbup::D

Yeah I just downloaded it a few minutes ago. I have since added Adblock, Faviconize, Tab Scope, Mr Tech Toolkit and DT Whois. I'm really happy with how well it's worked so far.

If you like NoScript and Adblock you might like Cookie Safe, Distrust and Image Like Opera. Cookie Swap is also a handy one if you only have access to a single machine and want to log in as both Admin and as a civilian in the same session, or have a thing for sock puppets. These will all run on FX 3 given a bit of aptitude.

I'm still using Internet explorer. I'm having problems with it. Every once in awhile when I click on something a small window pops up and says it cannot open and i have to click OK and it goes to the Cannot display page. Its annoying. FireFox ever have these issues? Also does FireFox have a spellcheck? it comes in handy , that's why I'm still on Internet explorer. And can you add toolbars? such as "Stumble" I love stumble, its awesome!!! everyone should check that out!!

Firefox extensions / addons offer battalions of toolbars, probably many more than you will ever need, and certainly many more than you should ever want.

Spellcheck - yup.

There are loads of reasons why browser X may not be able to display a page. It could be the page itself is written badly, it could be the server is sh@t, it could be the browser doesn't support some feature either by virtue of the browser or by dint of the way the user configured it. I don't suffer those problems unless they arise from something I have deliberately done [nerfed pop-up, or run without javascript .etc].

Thanks for the Info!! Ill be downloading it ASAP!!

Did you guys see the article about the huge security hole they found in Firefox 3?

Firefox 3 is not off to a good start. Only five hours after being officially released on June 17, the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) reported the discovery of a critical security flaw in the latest Mozilla Foundation browser. ZDI says that the flaw has been verified in the lab. Attackers can reportedly inject malicious code into a PC by means of a crafted web site, and launch the code with the user's rights. The flaw apparently also affects Firefox 2.

I love Firefox, but it seems that sometimes being the first on the block with the new toy isn't a good thing?

Solution?

I still have FF 1.5.0.4. on one computer, do you know if that is any safer?

From what I understand Mozilla is working on a patch but it has not yet been released. I have no idea bout Firefox 1 I'm afraid...:(

I'm not going to worry about it. They find and patch these things in every browser and OS all the time. They almost never seem to amount to anything.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence that this hole is being exploited. It doesn't seem like any big deal to me.

Hmm Now I'm confused on which to use. Opinions are back and forth. Ill just stick with The explorer for now, Until i hear more positive feedback about FireFox!

The addons I like so far are: Scrapbook, Ad Block Plus, and FireFTP. I like PicLens but for some reason it causes two buttons on my mouse to stop working when it is active - the scroll up and down buttons.

I cant not play u tube clips with fire fox. I get this message :

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

I had an update from Adobe this morning that I neded to update the flash player, that was probably the reason.

“I love Firefox, but it seems that sometimes being the first on the block with the new toy isn't a good thing?”

As a general rule I think you have a point but it is not applicable to this release [but as ever it's a good reason to run the nightly builds or alphas and betas in a sandbox or virtual machine]. As the article says; it also affects FX2. As it is a ZDI there's little information floating about as yet, but my bet is it emerges from the same family of weaknesses that the NoScrpt addon prevents. In fact if one looks at the history of FX vulnerabilities / patches they pretty much all come from that area.

It's also worth noting the difference between vulnerabilities and exploits. Vulnerabilities, zero day, proof of concept, or otherwise are only part of it. Often a vulnerability is flagged up as proven but no known exploit has ever been discovered in the wild. If one goes to somewhere like Secunia and looks back at the histories of FX compared to IE one will see very different trends. FX has been beset by reports of vulnerabilities in a distinct area [good, people are finding them], and with the proper precautions they can be controlled for or fixed. On the other hand often we can see M$ dragging it's sorry arse not only when there are vulnerabilities but when the exploits are up and running in the public domain to such an extent it is a trivial matter for script kiddies to download them.

Anyway, shutting up about that 'cos I don't want to risk getting caught in an FX vs M$ thing.
