Fireman Question

I have a victorinox One-handed Fireman, and I have a question. When the belt cutter is fully open, its backspring sticks out. When it's closed, the backspring is flush with the rest of them. Is this normal, or a defect?

Just checked mine, it also sticks out. I never even realised it until today.
