Fireman's Knife?

 I am no firefighter but I remember seeing a picture of a NYC fireman in a news magazine. This big, rugged guy had an electrician's knife (TL-29 or similar) attached to his coat.

Volunteer firefighter/Medic and full time paramedic here, I keep a byrd meadowlark rescue in my turn out gear along with a Gerber Multiplier . Byrd is cheap enough that I dont worry about losing and more than adequate. For most EMS calls on volly side I just carry whatever I was rotating at the time as I rarely use a knife on scene as trauma shears can almost every job a knife can do. For work though I carry my leatherman everday and rotate a folder that I carry concealed in a cargo pocket.

When I started I was carrying a combo edge modified sheeps foot Griptilian. I added a Gerber Hinderer to that, the oxygen tank key really came in handy. I also always had a multi-tool on me.

I carried a multitool. Leatherman skelitool. As said before the trauma shears pretty much cover cutting.

Leatherman is supposed to be releasing a set of trauma shears soon. I think it was called the raptor.

Something your not worried about losing. I had hell keeping a folder clipped to my bunker gear or slacks.
Too much stuff going in and coming out of pockets in rushed situations.

My cousin is a firefighter and he has an ESEE Izula clipped to his radio sling.

For the past number of years I've carried a Wilson Tactical Coptool in my bunkers. It was a gift and makes for a far better mini prybar than it does a cutting tool. I also carry a cheap Byrd knife in my bunkers as well. In my uniform pocket a carry a Spyderco Techno(since August) and a Leatherman on my belt. Over the past 20 years, I've carried everything from SAKs to Hinderers, CRKs and Striders. None have let me down during that time.
I think you're gonna find that most Frontline guys aren't carrying anything special, unless they also happen to be knifeguys.

Jimmy D ,
It is called the raptor, so want but don't want to be labelled a ricky rescue / whacker. Thouhgh the knife and tool nut in me cry's out for it. Even comes in a kydex sheath which my inner whacker has been contemplating getting for my trauma shears anyway. Anyway for those that havent utiliized program and interested Leatherman has a pro site , just need to send them an ID.

I've carried all sorts of knives on the job, just because I love knives. Hands down the one I reach for the most is my multitool. I am carrying a Spyderco Salt Pacific these days cuz it "will not rust." I felt sort of bad when I pulled out my XM-18 one day and it had some rust spots on the blade.

I am a paid emt and volunteer fireman and I carry a zt 0350 most of the times. Some times it might be a zt 0300, benchmade 551 or a zt 0560

Just retired after 32 years. For a belt knife I carried a spyderco stainless folder later switching to a busse game warden. On my turnouts I carried an ESEE 3 to cut away from my scba in an emergency. This worked for me.
